2001 Model Acceleration Issue
 

I am new at this forum and look forward to getting good advice. Thank you in advance.
I have 2001 model.
The main problem with the car is acceleration issue.
It triggers after about 11miles (first morning movement).
Previously, putting off the car and starting again normalizes (reset) the acceleration issue.
3 days ago, putting off the car and starting it again does not normalize the problem anymore.
Took it to mechanic for check but couldn't pinpoint the exact challenge.
Don't have the strength to test option.
An electrician is considering the issue to be emanating from the brain box.

Auto or manual?

What exactly is the acceleration issue? If you have an auto and the car suddenly stops accelerating but the engine is revving it could be a Vehicle Speed Sensor malfunction. If the car just won't rev beyond 2500 RPM then it is in limp mode which could be caused by a variety if issues.

Do the wheels keep spinning or do you actually lose speed while the engine is revving? Also, do you have a choppy idle?

Does your od lights blink when you start up?

If it does 16 times it'll be the VSS.

sounds like your transmission is slipping.
could also be the transmission computer.

I am 100% certain your Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) is kaput based on what you just told me. Without your VSS working your transmission will go into neutral while your car is moving and everything will re-engage after the car has been shut off and restarted. I don't know anything else that will do what you are explaining.

Yes, OD lights blink at start up.

Yes, it happens often.
I drive the car every morning following the same route; as soon as I get to a particular area it start. About 11Miles.
Previously, when this happens and I turn off the engine and turn it back on, it accelerates normally. And I can drive after the initial hitch for up to 150 miles without occuring again.
I have taken it for check but the response I am getting is not specific even after scanning.

Is VSS the same as ABS? If I am replacing the VSS, is the component completely different from ABS?

The VSS is a different from your ABS. Your VSS is a sensor that feeds wheel spin information to your BCM which in turn controls your Automatic transmission. With the VSS kaput your tranny will have no idea what gear it needs to be in and will shift to neutral. I am pretty sure the VSS also works with your ABS system but is not a direct part of it.

Please, if the VSS is dead/bad why does the car work well about 10miles before the problem crop up?

I do not know exactly why but it seems to correlate with temperature. Basically when it is hotter outside the VSS acts up faster than when it is cooler. So maybe a connection in the unit gets loose and when thermal expansion takes place it goes wonky. I'd be lying if I told you I understand exactly why it happen just that it does, and it is relatively common problem with the 2000 - 2001 Maxima.

You are the best! I change the sensor (used one- couldn't get new one) on Saturday. I used yesterday (sunday) & today (monday) to monitor it. The result is great. A million time thanks!
