Synthetic gear oil question

Ok I have the Jim Wolfe Technologies lightened flywheel and clutch that I'm installing. I need to get some new gear oil.
My girlfriend works for napa and can get Synthetic gl-4 valvoline 811095 mtf for a great price. I was told when I had my sentra ser spec v not to put anything other than redline synthetic in a nissan transmission. I can get the valvoline for 1/2 the price of the redline mt-85. Will the valvoline work just as well as the redline?

Redline or amsoil ONLY unless there's another high vis oil.
Viscosity is way too low on everything else when I looked.

Check the ratings. Valvoline MTF is 8.8 cst, yikes. Even the redline 75w85 is 12.0. Red/Ams 75w90 is 14.7, iirc. That's why we go with the 90 unless you live in canada or something.

And for reference to anyone that's not aware - NEVER USE GL-5! It will eat the synchros.

Just go with the good stuff. It's more expensive but the 6-speed doesn't hold much and it'll be good for years. It'll also shift better.

i like and use redline MT90. truthfully you can put whatever you want, even incorrectly specced GL5, and you'd probably be okay for tens of thousands of miles, it's not like improperly specced trans oil will cause a trans failure next week, but you might as well use properly specced good stuff and not worry about it. not hard to get your hands on tried and true oil.

Redline it is then.

3 qts should make it start overflowing. I tilted mine and still couldn't fit the last bit.

I believe the 4.8 is for the 5-speed. The 6-speed is definitely less than 3 quarts.

Also, don't try and add more than it will hold. Once it pores out, stop and install the plug. Adding too much could possibly cause the axle seals to leak and will not give you any benefit.

I just ordered 3 quarts of MT90 from here for $43.83 shipped. It's usually at least $17 per qt or more plus shipping.

Last year I had the tranny out and intended to reuse the MT90 that was in it but I let it get contaminated and couldn't use it. The only GL4 I could find locally was from the Nissan dealer. It hasn't shifted as well since then and this thread just reminded me I need to get back to the MT90.

Ordered a pack of 4 of the mt-85 for 60.00 shipped.
