Spring weights for lowering & ride?
Hi folks,
I have searched and found no answers. I am replacing the shocks/strut dampers & upper mounts on our 2003 SE 6-speed. I figured since I'm doing that much I may as well do lowering springs, too. I don't want to slam it, though, just down 1.5-2" in the front and 1-1.5" in the back.
Most of the springs on eBay are 280 lb front & 230 lb rear. There are some from a seller called Tuning Pros that are 230 lb front and 205 lb rear. In my searching here I found an old thread that was about what appears to be these springs. There was a number stamped on them that indicated they were Progress brand.
So, the question is will the 230/205 combo retain the stock ride comfort and not hurt handling? That is my goal. Not interested in auto-crossing.
Thanks,
Glenn

Well, spring rates are a legitimate value. They relate to ride comfort, handling, safety (if the car bottoms or not, drags its *** or not) and how long other suspension components will last.
It seems that either nobody here knows anything about spring rates or couldn't be bothered to answer. Maybe nobody really cares about the ride/performance balance as much as the rice-racer appearance.
FWIW, I bought the Tein H-Tech springs. We'll see how that works out.
