So I guess I can't jack the car up from the front anymore

I was changing my tie rods and put the floor jack at the usual jack point near the rad support. I heard some crunching and then a few flecks of rust fell down. Guess my rad support has gotten weaker. It has some rust spots but isn't as bad as the ones I've seen on here. The pinch welds on the rocker panel are also bent up but still usable.

Fun stuff :rotz:

Welcome to the club! I can still jack mine up from the rad support, but I can see a giant hole going right through it, so I'm not going to anymore. My new method takes longer, but I feel way better about it. Jack it up by the LCA bushings, then stick the jack stand on the pinch rail.

If you replace it you need a spot weld bit and cutting oil. 50 spots in all!
You could just bolt a new lower section in.
I take it the hood is real shaky too? because the hood brace is bolted to the front where it rusts the hood striker has no stability.

Here's a crappy pic of the rust. This isn't too bad, right?

Put the jack under the lca and lift it up. I always put a piece of 2x4 on the jack to cushion the contact.

Looks like mine. As long as you don't jack the car up anymore by there, it should be solid enough to not cause issues. Is the support bracket for the hood latch still attached or has that broke free as well?

Long reach jack halfway back on the crossmember

How can you bolt the lower section in? I thought it was welded, just asking because im about to get someone to do mine real soon.

I complain quite often but on the other hand ... God I love Florida.

If you can get some welding done but you can just temporarily bolt it in until you can get a welding device.
You just line the new part up then drill a few holes through the new part and the subframe until your all the way through.
Then take the bolts(zinc) with washers/nuts and tighten them down.
This will stabilize the new part long enough until you can get some other more important repairs done.
