Sunroof issue, I tried searching.

After owning my 00 maxima for 12 years one day my sunroof would not open. It didn't make any irregular noises or even a click. I read here the sunroof & windows are on the same fuse/relay under the hood and my windows work. Also, I tried the reset procedure and even bought another switch. I'm sure it's not the motor or the cables and the problem is electric. Are there any other fuses which don't involve the windows or any help would be really appreciated. Brian.

Have you tried stepping the motor by pressing the button sequentially? This is the trick people use to close it when the battery gets disconnected with the roof open.

It would help to understand how you know it is not the motor. Granted I have never read anyway talking about a motor failure. But presumably you powered the motor separately and it opens? If so, I would think there isn't much in the way of wiring that is not in the roof. It may be that the second switch is also bad but that is unlikely even if you bought it used.

Lubrication is the only other item I can think of that might impede the opening. If you ping me I can send you the ECM pages that cover the roof. Hope this helps.

To me if it was the motor there would have been some kind of struggle. The roof closed perfectly and never opened afterwards. I bought the entire switch panel with the dome light which works. When it warms up in NY I can test the motor but I can't imagine it's that.

I had this happen to me once a few years ago and I disconnected the battery and waited for a few minutes and hooked it back up and everything was perfect

The fuses are good and I get power through the relay under the dash. However, there is no juice from the power purple wire at the console in the headliner. How could that all of a sudden get a break in the wire while in the a pillar?

The motor is not just a motor. A motor would have just 2 wires going to it. There are a bunch more wires going to the motor because inside the motor case is a microprocessor, a couple of switches and something Nissan calls an encoder. If the microprocessor or encoder fail, the motor will not run. The switches that you push to operate the sunroof don't go to the motor, they go to the encoder and microprocessor.

There are 2 purple wires on the sunroof motor. One of them brings 12 volts to the motor from fuse # 10 in the dashboard and is in the corner of the connector. The other purple wire is from the roof switches and is not in a corner.

The 12 volt purple wire in the corner has a diode in the circuit. This could blow out like a fuse. Unfortunately I don't know where the diode is located at.
