7th Gen Swap Knock Sensor
My 7th gen 2014 swap motor came with both bank 1 and bank 2 knock sensors. I understand I will be using only one sensor with the 2003 ECU. Do I have to use the old sensor off my 2003 engine or can I utilize one of the new sensors already on the new motor?

It's recommended to install an old sensor as they ground through the motor, the 7th gen sensors ground back through the ECU

Thank you both. Any tricks to replacing bank 2 sensor without removing the intake manifold?

But now I have to order two new IM gaskets. I'm tired of waiting for parts!

There's no reason to ever buy new gaskets until the engine has high miles and is old. And even then if you have two flat surfaces you can just use a tiny bead of rtv. |

For what? You can reuse the old DE gaskets over and over. The new upper IM gasket is round rubber, so it will always seal until it dries out and flattens in old age. The lower is the same ol nylon coated metal, iirc.

I run it bypassed in case it goes bad :P. I don't need no stinking KS. No knock even in summer heat at 37* ign timing. Colder plugs and 93 FTW, I guess.

I saw that in another thread. 560ohm was it? I emailed Darren about it and apparently he has a mail-in reflash service that will modify the ECU in a similar function as would an inline resistor.

I think I'll pick up the ebay sensor and I'm sure I have a 560 carbon film resistor laying around and play with it. I thought I was trippin when I noticed only one lead going to the knock sensor when I was first pulling the mangled harness that came with the car. Makes sense though if it grounds to the block. I'm still pissed I have to remove the IM.

Is there any downside to running a resistor rather than a knock sensor? As long as youre ontop of what is going on with your motor (ie; listening for knock, running a wideband, etc) then it shouldnt really make any difference from what i understand? Sounds dumb but id rather just solder in a resistor than dig out the sensor from my DE motor.

Or spend $60 for peace of mind and not have to worry about it. Do the right thing:

What piece of mind? And just use the old one, who cares?
