Aftermarket PCV valve ok?
Hi.
I know some parts have to be OEM so I'm wondering if aftermarket PCV valves are fine to use. It's easier to get one at the parts store. Otherwise I'm assuming my recent and sudden rear valve cover leak is unrelated TIA |
PCV Valve is so cheap, why go aftermarket? Just how hard is it to find OEM?

Can I use an aftermarket PCV valve? is there any drawbacks from doing so?

aftermarket is fine for PCV valve.

99.99% sure its just a piece of crap plastic tube with a little plastic ball in it. you should be good with any brand, itd be pretty damn hard for even the chinese to botch something that simple.

Yeah it's just plastic. As you can see the old one could not hold itself closed. The new one is AutoZone. I just went in one day and decided to try it out. The oil consumption is way down. But I picked up a valve cover leak recently. I'm wondering if the pressure is now different. Why was wondering if OEM really mattered. Almost every gasket in that car is leaking so I probably needed them anyways and this just exposed it. But I'm willing to deal with it because I'm not burning nearly as much oil anymore

Well there should be like a spring or something in there that keeps it closed. With your original PCV valve, since that spring was apparently worn out, you probably had a vacuum leak going on. Cant really speak on oil consumption because im pretty sure thats a separate issue. Although... the now working PCV probably keeps more oil inside the valve covers since its always sealed unless pressure is high enough to open it, while the old one you had probably let it vent freely all the time, meaning more oil vapor into your intake manifold and therefore more oil being removed rather than recirculated.
