Key programming

My 2001 Maxima was carjacked from my stepson the other night and has been recovered. The police did not catch the carjacker or get the keys back. Is there a way to immobilize the key and only have the new key work?

When you program a new key, all keys have to be reprogrammed at the same time. Any key not programmed is by definition immobilized. The only remaining concern would be the remote. I'm not sure if that works the same way. The key may be immobilized, but someone with the remote may still be able to get inside the car.

Programming remote removes old ones in the process. The physical key is the problem of getting into the car.
