White LKQ '02 What am I Not Seeing?

Someone tell me I'm not blind. I don't see a damn thing wrong with the body on this car....

I originally wanted a white one.... I AM GOING TO LKQ TOMORROW!!!!!

Go here and enter Maxima into the search bar:

LKQ White Max

3rd one down with this VIN: JN1DA31D92T450980

I'll swap EVERYTHING off my car to this one if it is as good as it looks in the pictures!!!!!!!!

Anyone wanna share thoughts? It's already sitting in a damn salvage yard, I'll offer $500 and go as high as $1k. I don't care about salvage title status.

No apparent wheel arch rust, dents. faded paint or obvious damage other than driver window, straight body, equal, consistent panel gaps.... Am I dreaming?

The interior even looks good! Headlights are transparent! It's auto!

I want this car!

I spy a broken driver's window, ripped driver's leather seat, and a chewed up steering wheel.

But no blood, so we can be sure it's not haunted!

I noticed the window. I'm thinking a) theft and never recovered b) non-compliance and resisting arrest then forceful entry and impound, then never recovered, or c) a bad day at the golf court

Edit: Golf "course", not court. Shows how much I know about retarded sports.

I'll use my cylinder, key and computer, so yeah, pretty easy. I get off work in about 2 hours. I'll be on my way to the yard soon. Hopefully it's intact. It's only been available since the 18th. I'll get my own pics and report back either when I get home or when I wake up later today. If there's some kind of weird catch or too good to be true issue or if the yard jacked it up moving it around with the forklift I'll be pissed and then I'll just rob the headlights and go home. Super excited though!

Welp, I guess I missed this bus! Car had already been robbed. Ah well. It looked like it would have been in just as good of condition as the pictures showed, before it was hauled around and beat up by the forklift and ripped apart by scavengers. To my surprise however, both headlamps were just sitting there chillin on the front seats! Didn't even have to remove them. So I FINALLY lucked out and got two, beautiful condition, undamaged, intact headlamps that only need lens restoration! Score! Took ballasts and everything for a cool $105 bucks! These things go for two and three times as much on ebay in this condition! So it turned out to be a great morning after all!

These look fabulous! Can't wait to restore them and install all new bulbs. I'll do a quick thread on that with pics some time this week!

Depending on the prep, surface and product quality, it can last several years. I now have two sets of headlights, so I'll always have one restored and ready for a 5 minute swap-out when I decide it's time.

I bought this stuff:

I believe they are compatible, 2000 is 5th gen. And yes, OEM HID, non-projector. I bought new high and low beam bubs, halogen highs, HID lows.

I had forgotten what I paid, but it looks like I'm into bulbs for more than I paid for the headlamps, so I'm happy That was a good deal. I had been watching the yards for a couple months and jumped on new arrival 5th gens to score headlamps and there was always something wrong with them or they just sucked. I looked at probably 4 or 5 different sets. This was a good find.

Thanks for the tip. I'll let you know how the ceramic coating works out. Plastic lenses are going to fade over time no matter what you do, they're plastic. What I wish Nissan did was use the same plastic for the headlamps that they used for the tail lights. Every tail light I see is always immaculately shiny and clear.

It's just paint. Clear coat. 2k is a designation.

I was indeed a bit sad. The car was straight. Interior looked fantastic too. I really wonder how cars like that end up in yards.

^ probably didn't pass smog.

the clear coat from autozone or home depo is not 2k and will wear off because it's pretty safe and wipes off
ez with gas or brake cleaner. Crack heads can huff it.
2k stuff is meant to go on cars to last forever and will clog up your lungs for life. So wear a respirator.

6 years ago i did it and they look exactly the same crystal clear as the day i did it.

my moms 2012 versa she bought brand new the headlights are starting to fade i bet they
just use a really thin layer of clear from the factory.

Up here that car with an engine would go for 4k.

In my yard car's don't look like that. They are processed.

Fluids drained, battery taken out. exhaust cut off. Wheels taken off. And placed on the ground. They DO NOT want you underneath them.

But the parts are much cheaper. I could have got those headlights for $20.

2k clear is rattle can clear coat but is a 2 part mix. There's a button on the bottom to mix it. Then you have to use it up quick as it will cure in the can. I just bought a can, it's about $20 locally.

They fit, it's tight though. If you look at a 02-03 the bumper has a gap under the headlights.

  • Dayum...how did you miss that one???
ANYWAY,...there's more where that came from (although the miles were very low).

  • What year was it?
  • DO YOU THINK you could have purchased it for 1k ???

The yards here all weld rims underneath the car.

The website noted it as available on 6/18, I didn't notice it until 6/21 and wasn't able to get to it until 6/23. So I missed it by a few days. When I went and looked at it Sunday morning and grabbed the headlights, during checkout on my way out I asked them if I could buy the whole car and the clerks said that LKQ does not sell entire cars. I have my doubts that the folks who responded knew exactly what company policy was, so I'm still not certain. If I talked with the right person I'm sure I could purchase a whole car. LKQ margins are huge. Even the dude that marked my headlights with the wax pen during checkout said in a joking, sarcastic tone that I will pay more for the headlights than they did for the car, which is probably somewhat accurate and wouldn't surprise me in the least.

And this is why I bet they would never sell you the car. As the saying goes, the parts are worth more than the whole.

yes...after thinking about it, i would agree...they WILL sell you the entire car,...but nowhere near what you would expect.

I'M NOT SURE how LKQ operates but i suspect they pay the insurance companies, TOP DOLLAR for their cars???
