I think it's a fuel injector - but can't find a video on how to though
 

Hoping you can help please - I haven't been able to find a Youtube video showing me exactly how to replace an A33 (2000 3.0L) front facing single fuel injector.


I have had coil issues and sorted those out, also put in a new set of platinum plugs. Every so often the engine starts to misfire then it comes good then back to misfiring again. Not badly but enough to affect the running. Sometimes like a coil is not firing at all but mostly just like it's out of tune.

I did the screwdriver trick to listen to the ticking noise from the injector and it is doing that although if I had to say, it sounds a but noisier or not as smooth a sequence of ticking compared to a couple of others beside it.


What I am hoping is that I can just replace the one single injector that I think is intermittent and likely clogged, but I'm happy to replace the other two or even all of them which I guess makes sense to do. Though if I could just replace the one to begin with to test it is that then this is the preferred option. Looking at the engine standing in front of the car it i the one on the left at the front.


BUT ... Here's my issue / concern. Do I need to remove the whole fuel rail to do this, and more over, if I do this means I would need to remove the top manifold because that looks like a heck of a job to do. ?

Or is it possible to somehow get some movement in the fuel rail just at the front to give me enough spake to replace that one injector ?

What year 5th gen? 2000 or 2001 with the 3.0L engine, or 2002/2003 with the 3.5L engine?

Yes sorry I should have mentioned that ... It's the 2000 with the 3.0L

Your location isn't very clear though, when you say front, do you mean near the firewall or near the radiator? It would be better to name which cylinder you are talking about.
Cylinders 1, 3 and 5 are under the intake manifold closest to the firewall. (rear)
Cylinders 2, 4 and 6 are closest to the radiator. (front)
It sounds like you are describing cylinder 2.

Unlike the 95-99 3.0L fuel rail that has a rubber hose between cylinders 1 and 2, I believe your fuel rail is one hard line.
Once you unbolt the fuel rail at the front, you may be able to lift the fuel rail up just enough to pop cylinders 2, 4 and 6 free like you suggested. Give it a shot and see how much give there is. You should know very quickly. If there is resistance, don't force it as you don't want to bend the metal tubing. Unfortunately at that point, it means removing the IM so the whole fuel injector rail assembly can be removed in one shot.

Did you use OEM coils? What sparkplugs? The type of miss that you are describing sounds more like a coilpack than an injector based on your initial description. You may want to do nothing at this point and wait for a CEL. That will hopefully narrow down and confirm the cylinder or cylinders in question.
