Alright OBDII Guru's, need some help with this ...

I just did another scan (6 months since my first scan) and I got some interesting readings.

1) Under the STATUS tab ...

Misfire: YES
Feul System: YES
Comprehensive Component: YES

Now what concerns me is the MISFIRE statement. I haven't noticed any loss in performance, but what other tests can I do to get further information to correct this.

2) Under the TEST tab ...

TID | CID | VALUE | UNIT | Min | Max | Result |
$01 MANUF DEF $01 96 95 FAIL

Now my question is ... what is this and what does it mean that it FAILED? Any ideas on a correction for this?

3) Under the TEST tab ...

with the MODE $08 Evaporative System Leak Test Conditions are not proper 83

Ok ... once again, help. I would assume it is most likely in correlation to #2 listed above.

Ok that's all. If anyone could help out, I would greatly appreciate it. I have done some searching but have not found any results that explains any of these problems. I have the scan saved if anyone needs its. I can email it to you if you have the scan software.

Thanks for any help in advance ...

ok ... found out that the misfire ? on #1 is nothing. That is just saying it tested to see if there was a misfire ... not saying there actually was one. Answered my own question there, but I still need some more info for #2 and 3.

Thanks,

I'm no expert, so take it as that.

1) Your correct.

2) The manufacturer defined limit failed on whatever device/system is assigned the $01 designation. This is nothing major. I think the default min/max values the manufacturer defines for sensors/systems are sometimes read wrong by the SCAN tool. Otherwise, they wouldn't be so common between the different vehicles I've scanned, most of which didn't have a MIL. If it occurs enough times, the ECU logs the event, and you can see it in the history. If it occurs enough times the ECU will trigger the MIL and store a snapshot of all the sensor values.

3) The evaporative system leak test is related to your fuel vapor canistor, some hoses that go to it, or your PR CAI. I believe that the fuel vapors are stored in the canister until they recondense or are drawn into the intake and are burned later. Check for cracked or disconnected hoses going to the canister/PR CAI or it could be the valve in/on the canister that allows the fuel vapors to travel to the intake.

Also, I've noticed on MOST of the cars I've scanned that they have something recorded in the History or a sensor value that has failed. Either the OBD scan tool screwed up interpretting the manufacturer specified designations or the sensor had an issue that went away. This could be the sign of a slowly failing component that works most of the time.

The manufacturer defined designations would be helpful, but so far I haven't found out what sensors/system they are assigned to. The only other way is to get Nissan to use a Consult-II to display the failure description.

If you figure it out, shoot me an email. Thanks.

Looks like another possible PR CAI trouble, I, myself is in the process of switching to PR/Stillen Hybrid intake setup due to SEL problem for the last 3 months, it's been on and off..too annoying!!!

I believe another member solved the SEL problem by switching back to underhood intake setup!!! You might try it out if things dont' work out---like me:bawling:

P.S anybody with CAI, Y-pipe, and RT Cat combo and has no problems whatsoever with SEL problem?

I got a SEL when i first installed my CAI over 7 months ago, but that was because i forgot to plug back in a sensor for the shift solenoid. I have had no other lights since then. I don't think there is anything wrong with the CAI or the install, but with the new info on the evap test ... I will check all the hoses. :gotme:

Thanks for the info. I am no expert by any means but the what you pointed me into was the right direction. I haven't had any check engine lights since my CAI install over 7 months ago. :gotme: and that was something unrelated to what you said could be the trouble. I will double check all the hoses and make sure they are not collapsed or bent.

Thanks

I used the OBDII scantool ...

I think there is a link to where you can buy it in the stickies ...

I bought it a long time ago in a group deal, so I don't know what the price is now.
