5th Gen on 20's ??

Hi. I just bought aa 2002 Max Galcier White Se, with navigation. Im just curious as to what my largest wheel size can be , and still retain " Honda Smokin " abilities, like hard cornering and good launch , without rubbing the crap out of my fenders. Anyone know or spoken to a maxima owner with 20's.... Should I settle for 19's or even 18's.....let me know. What is the best intake too ! Is it worth buying a greddy exaaust when my Se comes with a HP exhaust ? Help me guys !

i say just go with 18s. save you some $ and you definitely wont have to worry about any rubbing.

want an intake? go to www.frankencar.com

Dubbs do fit on 2k2.

zeitgeist57 Mar 15, 2002 04:57 AM

Check the search function...there's some chick on here with a 2k2 that put dubs on and it looks tight. She also posted pictures! (of the car :) )

the place racing cold air intake is the best intake for the max, in my opinion. do some research yourself on the intake matter, a lot of people here may be biased as to which intake might be better.

Does anyone has figured that with the 3-4" whole for the CAI you are weakening the fender and in case of front accident it might not serve you well, what I think it would change is the deformation pattern, I spoke with one of my friend ( engineer )
about this and he think that the car might deform differently because of this new weak spot.

Cheers

AA

i don't think the little hole will be a big factor. if you look at the metal down there, it's like a coke can. it's really really thin, but that's just my opinion. i'm in engineering too.:D

Blu Mar 15, 2002 06:03 AM

I would go with 18" if you want to keep your honda smoking speed and plus bigger wheels look better but make the car slower because more wheels radius just my little $.02 worth

psing23 Mar 15, 2002 06:04 AM

and also u arent just cutting a hole in the fender and leaving it there... u are placing a tube that is pretty sturdy in there to fill up the space... and most who have done theirs correctly have a good nice tight fit between the fender and the pipe... so actually that space now can become a little more of a stronger spot rather than a weaker spot... im just a 19 year old with a little logic and some common sense lol... but that can get me no where...

soundmike Mar 15, 2002 06:45 AM

He could get a PR CAI, thing is there's just none available for the 2k2 yet (Even though they keep saying it'll be available in 2 weeks... 4 months ago <g>)

Anyway, to get back on topic. Here's

Maxima2002girl's dubs

I have 18' konig verdicts Platinum finish - got em from discount tire. I was having the same dilema - but I wanted to be able to race so I knew the 20's would be anchors. My friend has 2k Max on 20's and they don't rub but he loses to me everytime and we have the same car and mods.

Place Racing is the best intake. Only CAI for max, it provides the best performance and sound.

20's are for show 18's are for dough

Re: Re: 5th Gen on 20's ??

I'd agree with CAI but wouldn't be too sure about PR being the best. Like i said there is no PRC for the 2k2 yet so technically there is no *best* CAI for the 2k2 out yet (and the original poster has a CAI so this discussion is moot). :D

good point sound mike, the cold air can't be the best intake cause it's not out yet, but when it is out it will be the best, in my opinion.:D

but if you really really want an intake now, there are many warm air intakes available. some come with velocity stacks, some with upper intake tubes to replace the nissan stuff. you have to look into what stuff you want.

Themaxidocius Mar 15, 2002 08:02 AM

its out for the 2000 max and it is the best

it is out for my 00 max and on it- The place racing CAI is the best because it is the only REAL CAI that goes down in the fender. So no competion makes it the best

MILANO Mar 15, 2002 08:04 AM

If you do go with 20's your going to need a much better brake/rotor set-up than factory specs. to stop those babies.

soundmike Mar 15, 2002 08:06 AM

Yep, RAM and WAI is saturating the market alright... which only speaks good things about our Max's survival in the Mod world.

Btw, Stage 4 of Frankencar's intake should give the best of the RAM air and CAI world. But that too has yet to be seen given it's not out yet. Again a moot point.. and this time i made it :D

Frankencar was started by a fellow Org member, Steve aka DmbMaxima. He is also working on a bunch of other goodies for the Maxima community :naughty:

Putting 20s on your ride will definitely hurt your performance and handling. 20s will weigh down your ride causing a poor launch. keep it light and small if you want to still keep your honda smoking abilities. imo, light-weight 18s are your best option. but be prepared to pay a pretty penny. nowadays, most honda enthusiasts are sizing down to light-weight 16s or 15s or getting the best of both worlds with 17s (sacrifing some performance for looks with 17in rims).

i have light-weight 18x7.5 advan (kreuzer series 5)rims weighing in at 17lbs per rim but costing me $700 per rim and was able to get bigger size rims without sacrificing performance. imo, i wouldn't recommend anything bigger then 19s and another thing is road conditions in your area. is 20s suitable for daily driving? good luck on your decision!

what year maxima you got? those are some fast cars you used to have. i can't wait to get my brothers mustang, (when it dies) so i can tear it down, and build it back to good condition.
