ATTN: Don't buy the trust strut bar.

I was going to install my strut bar that I got off of e-bay. But when I went to install the bolts that hold the rings to the bar seezed and needed and impact gun to break them off. So I had to buy new bolts. If I knew it was going to be a piece of S**t I wouldn't of bought it.

Maybe I missed something?

The bolts that broke were the ones that hold the plate down?
Impact wrench?
Should be torque wrench. Did you break the Nissan bolts?

NuJerseyDrive Apr 13, 2002 03:00 PM

I got that bar. No problems here :gotme:

No this one that holds the bar to the plate.

i did the same thing with my courtesy strut bar......I
didn't thread the bolt properly and it ended up snapping.

I'm thinking that's what you did too.....

It's not like the bolts make a difference anyway.
I ended up buying some new bolts that were the same size.

Does yours touch your hood I don't know if mine does but if you look directly from the side eye level with the top of your fender does yours stick up higher then the fenders.

Did the same thing with one of my bolts...

...that came with the Trust bar. Went to Lowe's to buy a nice pair of stainless bolts & nuts so I'd have a matching set. While installing the first of the new bolts I (again) apparently managed to cross-thread a nut and ended up breaking one of the new bolts. Now I have a nice un-matched set of bolts holding the bar. Oh well. I'm dubious of the bar's effect on handling anyway.

I have carbon steel bolts from work can't strip or cross-thread. does yours touch your hood.

e28fixer Apr 13, 2002 07:20 PM

No touching of the hood that I'm aware of...

Install was very easy and hood closed without any contact. I was pleased to get the bar for around $65. This was before all the group deals for similar bars at an even lower price. Like I said, I have doubts of it's effects on handling, but I had one in my BMW so why not in the Max? BMW was an '87 though, so I'm certain chassis stiffness has improved since then.

I've got that bar also. No problems with the bolts and it does not touch the hood( the hood closes just as easy with the bar on or off ). Sounds like a user error instead of a bad bar.

The problem with it being user error is that I got today and tried to install and the bolts did not move and had to take it to a shop were they put it in a vise and used and impact and the busted. I could even use a wrench and a allen wrench to move it. Thanks for the info on that it doesn't touch the hood and fixed the problem by using carbon steel nuts and bolts.

I got the COURTESY FSTB and snapped off BOTH bolts when taking the bar off for spring install...I just happily got some good Grade 8 bolts from the autostore for replacements. I'm almost GLAD that the weaker chrome bolts were gone so I could get excellent quality hardware.

I am think of making the bar out of a different metal (not saying that the bar I bought sucks it's just that I found out I can make the bar at work out of a stronger material. After buying it and looking at it I could make it all at work on a mill.

I had the same problem with the bolts, something is wrong with them.
The bar is so close to the hood that it was blocking the windshield washer hose ,liquid would not flow on left side.I had to reroute the hose.
Other then that that bar is a must have,it should be redesigned through for better clearance
I have this bar

This thread is why I have yet to buy one.. all these people selling CHEAP FSTB are selling them cheap for a reason. I guess Stillen is justified for selling theirs for 200.00 ! Has anyone had problems installing that ?? If so let me know !

FYi, Trust/GReddy does not make a STB for the Maxima. The person on Ebay is deceiving people on this. If it was a Trust bar, the bracket is silver, not red. You're getting the Top Speed/Courtesy Bar
