New Mini's

Has anyone driven one of the new Mini Cooper S's.

I think they are cool little cars, but have not driven one.

what do you guys think of them.

Y2KevSE Apr 18, 2002 08:50 AM

WAY, WAY, WAY too small. You'd be done for if an Excursion hits you.

SSSSSSQQQQQQQQUUUUUUUUIIIIIIISSSSSSSSHHHHHHHHHH!!! !!!

Newman Apr 18, 2002 09:54 AM

the only reason they might be cool is because they're in Project Gotham. but besides that they are way uncool.

Actually, I got to look at one these while I was drooling over the '02 Maxima's (soon to have one in my possesion). To my surprise, they had one sitting on the lot..Not sure if it was a demo or brand new. I don't like the cars-They are sooo small and the intrument panel is weird. They are supposed to handle pretty well, but doesn't matter if you're going to get creamed by a heavy vehicle.

Just my .002 :D

They're nice as a die-cast metal 1:19 scale model, but that's the extent of my admiration. :goofy:

Come on, you guys. I bet there isn't a one of you that wouldn't itch to get your hands on an original Mini Cooper S. I've been in one of those bad boys and yeah, it's small. It will also turn on a dime . . . literally! And you couldn't make one flip over if you hit it sideways with a Mack truck. I'd put one up against just about any production vehicle made in the twisties. And if the new Mini Cooper can maneuver half as well as the original, it should be nothing but fun to drive.

Just my two scents! ;)

Jopa416 Apr 18, 2002 01:51 PM

OK, so not many people like the Mini S

I agree that they are small, and I wouldn't replace the Maxima with one, but I think that they would make a fun second car to zip around in.

I saw one this pm, it was a the Mini Cooper S blue look very nice. I try to convince my gf to buy one instead of a gulf so I can play with it.

I agree. I think they look cool and I hear they handle like a dream. Maybe I'll take my wife's old car in and get a test drive! :)

i didn't drive one, but i did sit in one at the autoshow...the car is too small..it felt smaller than a miata...anyone who's over 6ft tall(like me) would have problem dring long distance in a Mini..but..it's very cool car..especially the S...i loved the toggle switch they have inside...:)

A black one with a black roof and mirrors and some SSR Comps would look good... I would only consider the Cooper S though.

I like the one that H&R has in there ad in SCC mag with the deep dish wheels. I wanted a older one to cram a bunch of 12's in it and make a earthquake.

Look at it this way: easy parking. :D

Actually I kind of like the S model. The S model suppose to have 160 hp right? Who are the competitors? Sentra, Civic, Corolla, etc.?

Ya, but isnt the S model suppose to be around the mid 20s-high 20s?

Cooper S

I think you can get a VERY nicely quiopped Cooper S for 25k. That's MSRP - But right now I think they will be hard to get so expect to pay MSRP.

I saw one sitting on a Volkswagen dealership lot last night. I thought it was a classic somebody had restored. Who makes these things anyway. It looked pretty cool I guess. I wouldn't want one as daily driver though. Would be nice as maybe a 4th or 5th car.

They're not anywhere as small as the original - it's an illusion.

You're talking about price right and not 1/4 time? :D

It's 143 inches long - currently the shortest car sold in America.

so its possbile for a really short car to NOT look like total garbage. someone tell the folks over at Geo.

163hp 155lbs torque/supercharged and only 2678lbs. Hmmmmm small yes. But imagine the tunning possibilities. Play with supercharger, headers, exhaust and with an 8:1 compression a little juice and that sucker will FLY. But I would never buy one:laugh:
