I'm really SCARED
I just installed my FTSB from ebay onto my car.
I say the instructions from SoundMike was pretty good, I think I did everything correct, but i'm still SCARED. On there it says, "Be sure to torque it at the right setting or you'll risk damaging your strut tower/engine/hood/bar/car and your life. You've been forwarned" I'm about 70& sure I did it right (always second guessing myself), I really don't want to have an accident or even die from this "BAR". Is there anyway I can make sure I did it right? thanks |
Die from a FSTB ? :gotme:
|
Well, cuz someone told me its not good if its loose, and if its too TIGHT, than when I do a hard cornering, the bolts might just pop off and I'll lose control of my car.
and I don't want to damage my car just b/c of a FTSB(it was stated in the instructions) |
What setting did you torque it at ?
|
34ft lb
and is that only apply to the 6 bolts on the end plates? or 34ft lb for all the bolts on that thing? |
The only time the strut tower bolts even do anything is when your car goes airborne, that's it. If you have the bolts tight then don't worry about it. In the event you over tightened the bolts it does not even matter anymore since you did not break anything tightening the bolts.
SO really, don't worry about :) |
Emax <------- my idiol!!!
cuz i love the look of your car soooo much!!! (what u did to tail lights) thx Emax & Kloogy for y'all's help!! |
Think about it
tapwr3000,
How could the ramifications be any worse than when you didn't have the FSTB on? if that was the case, bone-stock max's without the brace would be a death trap. As far as the upper strut mounts you'd have to generate some great shear force to snap all 3 bolts at once. Dave |

You'll be okay. I put that notice there just for safety reasons and to let whoever reads it know that proper installation should be followed.
No need to be scared really. :) If you really want to be cautious, look outside your window when you drive... chances are there's more accident-magnets out there. In other words, you should be more worried about the crazy drivers out there. |
To be more comfortable buy a torque wrench and re-torque the nuts to 34 lbs.
|
My wife thought my RACING gene left when I sold my Stang a year ago.. NAAAH !!!!!! , I just felt it was time to MOD a "Family Sedan", thats FULLY LOADED !!!:rolling_e .. I still want to hit 12's, and be able to drive to the local " FINE RESTAURANT "..

thx y'all

the six nuts at the top of the braces get torqued to 32-38 ft-lb (from the shop manual). I think that the two strut brace bolts get a 20 ft-lb torque.
have fun... |
