blower motor wouldn't work

I started my car after i got out from the mall and I turned on the a/c and the blower motor wouldn't work. It was working fine up until that time. I stopped at Pepboys and figured that it might be a blown fuse. I poped the hood and checked the fuses but both were in good shape. Well after I got done buying some fuses and other stuff I turned it on again and still it would not work. I left it on and as I was coming out of the parking lot it started working again. Anyone know what might of happened?

Your thermostat is set to open up after your engine hits a certain temparature. After it gets to that point, your fan turns on to cool it. Since you did a cold start, your engine was probably still cold and thermostat closed. How long were you in the mall? Since you left the car at idle, it got to the temp to open up the thermostat, thus turning on the fan.

I don't men the radiator fan, I am talking about the fan that turns on when you turn on the a/c or the heater. It should work even if I don't have the car turned on. However I have to have the key in and on the acc. position for it to work. When I try to turn it on when I came out of the mall it wouldn't turn on. The fan I think you are talking about turns on even when you turn on the a/c, I think, no matter what the temperature of the engine.

dont know...

but the exact same motor for our pathfinder is $95 from DaveB. Hopefully ours will be under warranty, but if not, thats the cost.. the max should be the same.. its very easy to get too. 5 mins to pull, another 5 mins to put back in..

Thanks guys for your thoughts, weird things is, is that it works, the only time it wouldn't was yesterday, with teh car on or off it would work. I wonder if this is a prelude to bad things (electrical). :gotme:

It's all good. Hopefully it was just one of those days...and not a prelude to anything! :)

Thanks for the comforting words, I hope nothing bad is going to happen. :wall:

no..

our blower motors are cheap and disposable... well, cheaply made not cheap to replace.

Both my max and pf motors have worn themselves out. What happens is they use some oiled material to keep the bushing lubed. but untimately it just runs out and pools in the bottom of the housing. At some point the heat from friction or metal gets on the brushes and they just wear themselves completely out.

I havent seen the replacement motor (dealer did the work) but my 2k motors were unserviceable. Given that the motor started going bad again 6 months, I suspect its the same design. :(

I had this problem with my 2000 model. The fan would intermittly(sp)stop working. The dealer finally after 6 trips found the problem. There is a relay to the right of the glove box(it must be taken out), one of the connectors in the relay was not making contact. The solution was bend a prong to make contact.

Thanks guys :)

Interesting stuff. But where exactly is the blower motor?

TimW May 31, 2002 10:34 PM
