Yet another Y-pipe Question:

I've heard some disturbing news as of late......

I've been told that all Y-pipes (aluminum, SS, mandrel bent, non mandrel bent, cattman, budget, stillen or Warpspeed) will only give
you about 2-3 additional horses.

I read this in a budget y-pipe group deal thread in the Group deal forum.

On the 5th gen forums on the other hand I've read that y-pipes (mandrel bent) will give you an additional 9-15 horses.

So what's the deal?
Who knows the cold hard facts?

Check out the numbers on "Post your dynos here". It is a hell of a lot more than 2 hp.

ya my asss dyno noticed alot more than 2 or 3 horses... especially on the freeway

ok how about this, completly forget about budget. get a stillen of cattman, or warpspeed whichever floats ur boat. install the thing, or get it installed and tell me that its only a 3hp gain. thats all im gonna say.

I love my car and refuse to install anything that is named "Budget" on it....especially if their "Budget" Y-Pipe nets you 2 hp....

OK. But keep in mind that Stillen's pipe is manufactured from aluminized steel. That's OK for those of us living on the left coast. But I'm not sure how well that will hold up in NYC. You might want to consider a SS pipe instead.

Can you enlighten me..what is an SS Pipe. I am assuming it is a different manufacturer. Since I live in CT, I need something that isn't going to rot from snow, salt, etc. Where can I get this pipe for my 2k2

Cattman's pipe is stainless steel (hence the SS). But I haven't heard of any y-pipes for the 2k2. All the ones out there for 5th Gens are for 2k-2k1.

What about us who live in Hawaii? I bought a Stillen Y for my car and is on the way. Do you think that was a bad decision? With all the trouble Cattman has been having I didn't want to take the chance!

I think you'll be OK. But if you're concerned, check with a few muffler shops in your area and ask them how well aluminized pipe holds up.

Haven't people been having trouble with that doo-hickey on the Cattman? I have heard of no problems with the Stillen and the Warpspeed is brand new......

Yes, there has been a doo-hickey problem with SOME Cattman Y-pipes. But Cattman changed his doo-hickey supplier and is installing brand new doo-hickeys in his Y-pipes. If you order a Cattman Y-pipe, specify that you want one with one of the newly-designed doo-hickeys. If they have a problem understanding what you mean by "doo-hickey", say "flex section" instead. :)

The post on the GD forum was referring to the gain difference between crush bent "Budget" Y-pipe and mandrel bent Y-pipes. That post stated that the 2-3 hp is the DIFFERENCE between two.:)

after further consideration, and the additional wise words of the ever elusive Jane97se (hi jane!) I'm gonna have to go with Cattman's
SS Y-pipe.

I do live on the east coast afterall:)

Make sure you get one with a good doo-hickey.
