A few things I've noticed since I've been driving the Prelude instead of the Maxima
For those of you unaware, my 2K2 has been in the body shop since the 3rd of June due to an accident. Its still there:mad: . Anyway, I've been driving my now stock Prelude for the past few weeks and here are a few things I've noticed...
PROS.... 1) Super sharp steering 2) Excellent braking power/feel 3) Very tight body structure 4) Virtually no understeer unless your totally going wild CONS.... 1) Significantly louder on the interstate, even with it being 100% stock now. 2) MUCH less power than the Maxima unless you typically downshift to at least 6K rpms. 3) ABSOLUTEY NO ROOM INSIDE! I love the Prelude for what it is, but in this time I've had to drive it again, the Maxima is a better overall car for someone with my requirements. Oh yeah, those with modded suspension Maximas, dont even think you can touch the Prelude in the twisties....you cant. |
so thats why you didn't go for the y pipe testing:confused:
|
Yeah, the car is *supposed* to be finished by the first part of this upcoming week. As soon as its finished, I can go up to WSP that following weekend for testing.
|
i don't think you will need to because someone called and said they rented a max and were going to test it on the rental. check my thread i made addressing you maximus1000 ED any news on the y pipe or something like that.;)
|
Sorry, hadn't been on the org in a few days since I was out of town.
|
sucky. you were gonna get a free ypipe out of the deal too werent you? :(

What kind of mods did you have on your Prelude to get the 14.43 et?
Any idea what et you would get stock? I used to have a '97 Prelude and agree with everything you just said. But I never modded the Lude or took it to the track. Regrets! Tony |

The prelude is actually a fairly nice looking car. Much nicer than the plain jane Accord and the umm...ever-popular Civic... . I see you have some pretty nice times for it. How much beyond stock is it? My friend works at Hollywood Video here in Austin and this one guy who works there has a Prelude with the ever-popular 4 inch or something exhaust pipe...and the back seat removed to make room for some giant woofer. He also has a cold air intake... I was talking to him one day and he said how he smoked a 300ZX the other night. I responded, sure dude, now please put down that crack pipe. You're making a fool of yourself. That very much ****ed me off because the Fairlady Z is my favorite sports car and to hear this idiot with no real performance mods say that he smoked a sports car...well, my opinion of Honda owners dropped again. No hate for you though Maximus.

Originally posted by Majisto Well it was a twin-turbo 300ZX it sounded like and the Prelude is stock. CAI does basically nothing and the tip and woofer are not going to help him at all...in fact the extra weight from the woofer will hurt him. |
Originally posted by AznWontonboy Oh, now your talking.. a 300zx TT will hand the prelude back its A**.. thats if the Prelude doesnt have the comptech S/C. ;) |

My Prelude had the following...
AEM CAI AEM Tru-Power pulleys Mugen header Mugen cat-back exhaust system Apexi VAFC (VTEC controller). Well, you may have beaten the driver of those cars, and if so congrats, but if you drove a Prelude you would beat your own time in your Maxima. |
I raced a Prelude at a local 1/8th mile track last weekend. Wasted him. Several years ago I test drove a 2000 'Lude manual tranny and it was a very nice car. It was just that my head touched the roof. Its not made for six footers, at least if it has a sunroof. The ATTS feature is nice though. Overall a very nice car which becomes quite potent once the S/C is added on.

How can you say that your prelude would win when the best time you list is slower than the best time he lists? |

Originally posted by 8702 i totally know what you're saying... my girlfriend has a 00 prelude 5-spd and i love driving that thing. when she's not with me i push the car to it's potential. she never does!! she never revs it past 4k, vtec doesnt even kick in til around 5k. she always clowns on my car though since i have a 2k2 AUTO..(parents didn't want me to get stick) it's all good though, i love my car. girlfriend says it's to big since she is so used to her prelude. how do you think my 2k2 auto will do against her prelude? we're both bone stock. |
My son has a '91 Prelude SI with the gold
package, etc etc...I got it for him in '96 with 35k miles on it as a university car. Now has 150k (highway) miles on it..still solid after just normal maintenance typical of these miles (clutch, shocks, etc) and I can tell you..I still love to drive that car.

Originally posted by Maximus1000 The times in his sig and mine are 1/4 mile times. Yeah, his car is faster in the straightline, but what I was referring to was the handling abilities of the cars and the times on say an auto-x course. |
