I don't think I'll be trading "up" for one of these. The interior shots made me scream "Dear God, noooo!!", and the exterior shots made me wonder if this car is going to be competing with the Hummer for offroad bragging rights. Is this thing a 4x4? They just keep lifting it.

I hope I'm in the minority on this, or Nissan will be in trouble.

I don't really like the new max. The grill is the worst part. The 3rd, 4th and 5th gen have a style of their own. While most companies made cars with higher rooflines and raised bodies, ie neon, camry, and echo come to mind, the max was still low snug. The rear is nice, the qaud pipes add a nice touch.

I don't think the wheel gap in the wells are any bigger than the current gen's. Nissan is gunna make a ton of money on these cars, I guarantee it. Just cuz a few guys on the board think it's fugly (mostly cuz most than think it's fugly aren't in the market to buy now anyway, so why not playa hate!) doesn't summon one of the biggest car manufacturers to their doom, LOL!

My wife took one look at the 2004 Bronze Max exterior and interior and said thats her next car! Do I rejoice or play dead?

I'm still not sure about the new Max until I actually personally see and test drive one. I think its growing on me though!

What about that wicked looking interior of the new quest. I like the skylights and drop down DVD screens but I don't think the dash is going to win too many hearts!

That interior console stack reminds me of a G35 - the interior of which I really don't like that much...actually, the entire interior looks like a G35. And check out the headlights. They look like fatter G35 headlights. I don't much like the G35 - sure it's fast but it feels like driving a bubble - no fun. I hope the new Max isnt going to be like that. They should just call the Maxima the Infinity S35 or something. I've always kind of wondered why they sell it as a Nissan and not an Infiniti - it costs as much as an Acura, so why not sell it up there with them? The I35 costs the same as the Maxima....

I'm OK with it

I agree with comments about the "tooth". Going to take some getting used to. From straight on in the back, it resembles some Mercedes'.

The headlights look like a cross between a G35 and a CTS.

Dash...cannot see enough, but it looks like the G35 or Murano

Why does everyone do their new cars in that "burnt Orange"? Murano, CTS, and others. That will be a fad color this year and a resell $dog in a few years.

Looks nice on the interior but leaves MUCH to be desired in how much you can change inside...everyone know Bose blows...and this center console does not appear to accept standard 2din or even din sized decks/components without much custom cutting needed.

Max/quest morph

Gee, I'm not so certain about the Max Grill, tooth and all, but for some reason the Quest doesn't bother me. Maybe it's the way the headlights merge or maybe the blackened treatment, or maybe it is a little more slender than the Max.

Someone with some time should morph the Quest grill/lights on the Max and see what it looks like.

No, it can seat 4 or 5 depending on whether you have the "elite" seat package. See http://www.nissannews.com/nissan/200...ma/index.shtml.

"The idea of the 4-seat package was not to eliminate the traditional five passenger seating, which is still the Maxima standard," said Kirrane. "But in keeping with Maxima's 4-door sports car heritage, the logical extension is front and rear seating similar to a 2-door sports car. The optional Elite Package is ideal for owners who, for example, like to go out to dinner with other couples, but never really need a full 5-passenger capacity of a traditional sedan."

Well, at least the cornering lights are back, was kinda sad to see them go in 97. I take it they decided to integrate the foglights in with the rest of the headlights? Quite honestly, they would do better down low.....but I guess I will have to see them first.

Can't tell which model of Goodyear though. My 2K2 GXE came w/Goodyear Eagle RS-A's. I think they're ok, but I'm not much of a tire critic, so I dunno if they actually suck (some people on this board think they suck though).

Yeah, kinda interesting... from the charts, it looks like basically the SE->3.5SE and GLE->3.5SL, and the GXE looks gone. The SL comes w/leather, better stereo, and heated seats. It's too bad about #3 though.

I have to agree with DA-MAX, I don't like it much. The front is butt ugly, the side view looks ok, and the rear I go either way. The interior with the chrome, looks cheap.

But hey, they all seem to grow on me after a while, except that thing the Pontiac builds. What is that? An SUV or something??

Anyway, the new Altima was hot out of the box. I think the Maxima will take some time to grow on me.

RickC

BTW, DA-MAX? You can take that score down now.....

I like the Murano a lot very nice SUV. But Nissan shouldn't put the Murano grill on the Maxima, that is just horrible. The rear looks great too me, but the front needs some work.

omg! are those round style pod gauges i see? colored in yellow? KILL IT NOW KILL IT. i hate that dash. and what's with that titanium sci fi style center console? i swear that thing looked better from the outside.

the front reminds of the cadillac sts (sp?) and the headlighs are pure honda

the rest is acceptable. but with such horrendeos looking dash i would rather get the altima.. it seems they merged them anyway.

nissan

i think i will give my 4th gen a polishing following this post

I'm not going to buy one (probably), but I sure do like it. You guys who are bashing it will come around. That grill isn't any worse than the stock 95-96 grill.

I think they're sexy.

They are definately RS-A's on them. The skyroof looks pretty lame too. Much prefer the moon roof.

When the first pics of the 2004 way back then it looked kinda ugly, but after a few looks, glances, and photoshop pictures of the new 2004 Maxima, it started to look good. I think the 04 Maxima would of looked better if some of us were on the design team.

Styling aside, the new Max looks Big (specs confirm it is indeed bigger) and from what I've read elsewhere, Expensive (pricing *starting* at $30K). Even with the independent rear suspension, how does Nissan expect to make an elephant dance? Until I see the real thing and confirm otherwise, I'll be keeping my 2k3 or looking elsewhere for my next sports sedan...Or perhaps sports coupe(G35C).
Wish I kept my '99SE. As far as I'm concerned, that was the last generation of real sport sedan maxes.

I like it all except the grill. The 2+2 seating option is very nice too. I think it will grow on mostly everyone.

I thought that the "SE" designation was short for "Sport Edition". For the new Maxima it means "Snaggletooth Edition".

There is a definite opportunity for aftermarket grill sales.

So far I like the side view and the dual exhaust. Dislikes are the grill, trunk, and dash.

You remember that episode where they Let Homer design THE perfect car ... I have a feeling that if enough of you were let onto the design team... we'd end up w/ that car Homer designed... Let's just leave it to the Nissan design team to continue making millions of dollars because in the end, you KNOW this car is going to sell like crazy!
