Costco gas for the 6th Gen?
 

I was wondering people's opinions on costco gas.. I think i might have heard somewhere that it isnt that good, but i might be wrong. What do you all think? about their high grade, i dont care about the low grade

I've never heard of Costco gas. Sorry man. If you're looking for less expensive gas I personally like Citgo premium. That's what they have at most 7-11's. It's about 40 bucks to fill the tank and I do a lot of driving. On average I go through about a tank and a half a week. I save about 15 dollars a week in gas in comparison to the 98 Acura 3.2TL that I had. Glad I traded that thing in for a real car.

I doubt Costco would risk selling cheap gas. They're a big outfit and probably wouldn't risk the financial pounding they'd take if they screwed up a bunch of cars.

I've been using Walmart's gas for the past year. In this part of the world, it's from Murphy Oil Co. in Oklahoma, and like Costco, I figure they'd take a real beating if they foisted off rotgut fuel on the unsuspecting public. The Walmart stuff runs good and gets excellent mileage (suggesting it's being burned efficiently), and I notice no cold-starting problems, no pinging, etc. It's also (usually) cheaper than the big guys, and if you go to the trouble to put some money on one of the Walmart gift cards and use it at the pump, you save another 3 cents a gallon.

Try a tank of the Costco stuff and pay attention to how your car runs and what kind of mileage you get. I'll guess it's going to do fine.

I think you dont have to worry about any gas station you go to, as long as its not "JimBob's Gas 'n Go" in West BFE, New Mexico The gas for Costco and WalMart and the supermarkets now here in CA that have their own stations I assume just comes from other large companies that supply gas to many different stations. Its not like Costco owns its own refineries or anything. So you shouldnt have anything to worry about, its all tested to certain standards too in each state, so you know what you're getting for the most part. If a place was found to be selling gas that ruined car engines, they'd be out of business real quick, so they arent going to risk that.

Gas is gas is gas.... Except for some overpriced additives (cleaners, etc.) not much difference between brands.

Just watch out for a low volume station that may have old stuff in their tanks. Modern gas breaks down pretty quickly. Some say after 2 - 3 months.

Ever notice how bad your lawn mower runs on last season's gas? Unless you've added a preservative to it.

not going to answer your question, but costco can sell
the gas for cheaper, b/c of volume...i can't remember
the exact figures but one costco station sells more gas
in one day than 5 gas stations of 'chain' gas stations in a month.

i still use chevron only...call me stupid

As mentioned above, all states regularly check public gasoline facilities for accurate measurement of dispensed fluid, and for proper octane.

The primary difference in brands is the 'additive package', which varies not only by brand, but by region of the country and by the season.

Back in the 1950s/60s, I frequently drove coast-to-coast, and at that time, I had credit cards for 14 brands of gasoline. Whatever brand station was on the horizon when I needed a 'nature' stop was 'it'.

Times change, and I have changed. Now I use Shell, Chevron and BP/Amoco. But I would have no trouble using the premium gas at Costco or WalMart, if they were convenient and appreciably cheaper.

Costco is the same gas as everyone else. Literally. It's not costco brand, but the extras mixed from other stations. after a truck fills a station, it will empty its truck at Costco. Not sure exactly which co. deal with Costco though.

my friend got gas from this really small and old Shell gas station in last
winter. next morning, his car wouldn't start, so he took it to the shop.
and the mechanic said it's due to the frozen fuel line. he said the
gas in the gas tank was mixed with some water.
so my friend went back to the gas station and found out that the gas tank
in the ground at the gas station had crack and water soaked through the
tank...

of course the gas station paid for the repair...

of course i never go to old gas station after that incident...

I used to use Mobil exclusively. Now I'm using Hess and saving 30 cents a gallon. Haven't noticed any problems.

There was a show about gas on the discovery channel....they said all gas is the same...when one company needs to fill its tanker it takes it out of a pipeline or filling station (something like that) and then that company will replace that gas they took out at a later time. Everyone uses the same gas so to speak, except when it comes to additives like chevrons techron and all that jazz...they showed the whole operation, all the pipelines, everything like that...they said they put the same gas in the same pipelines including different octanes because it flows at different levels in the pipe itself so it is actually separated...something along those lines...it was a pretty interesting show...

I always heard its bad to fill up when the tanker is pumping fuel into the tanks, cotsco gas is great and we use it in our 89 Maxima abad weather car.

The only gas I won't touch is Pride. Maybe it's the station that I brought my '00 Max to at the time, but everytime I filled up with Pride gas (93 octane), the engine would knock like crazy.

Other gas did not do this. I deduced that they were likely selling lower octane gas as 93.

You heard knocking in your '04 ??? I've used both mid and high grades in mine without ever hearing a single knock.

You may have a problem like a faulty knock sensor.

No, the knocking was in my 2000 (previous Max). When it happened, I had the dealer look at the knock sensor and ran other diags. Everything tested normal. They suggested I switch to a different brand of gas, which I did and it fixed the issue after a couple hundred miles or so.

I don't blame the brand of gas they use, as much as I blame the station itself. I just think they were pulling a fast one on customers by selling 87 octane as 93.

any major gas company wont risk selling an inferior product, i dont see any problem with costco's gas

I currently use Costco gas for about a year now and I get better mileage than gas from any other station.

Haha oh man I didn't even check the date. I hit my first 15 a while back but I posted because it was at the top of the forum lol.
