Service Engine Soon light turned on, can't find the ECU :|

Hey guys,

My 04 Maxima service engine light turned on. Seems like I'm cursed by these lights ;) I haven't had a car without a check engine light on in a few years.

Anyhow, I saw all the writeups for the previous gen's ECU, by the gas pedal, turn the knob one way to read it, the other way to reset it.

Can you do the same on the 04? Where's the ECU?

Thanks,
Chris

The dealer can reset it for you but they have to "plug in" to do it - I do not think that it is a user servicable issue - more interesting is the code that will be revealed showing why the thing came on in the first place...

Damn. I know the 5th gen and older you could just turn a screw on the ECU to get the code... and my Integra you can short a couple of pins on a socket to get the CEL to blink the code.

Oh well, I'll drive by my dealer to see what it is... I saw a rear O2 sensor heater circuit TSB, maybe that's it.

Chris

Actually there are a number of TSB's with MIL codes

http://www.alldata.com/TSB/41/04411799.html

04-019A APR 04 Engine Controls/Exhaust - MIL ON/DTC P1283/Ticking Noise
04-027A MAR 04 Air/Fuel Sensor - P0171/P1273 or P0174/P1283
04-025 FEB 04 Engine Controls - MIL ON/Multiple DTC's Set
04-024 FEB 04 Engine Controls - MIL ON/O2 A/F Sensor DTC's Set
03-067A OCT 03 Engine Controls - MIL ON/DTC's P1274/P1284 Set
02-115E OCT 03 Emissions/Engine Controls - MIL ON/DTC's P0465/P0442

I'll let you all know what it ends up throwing.... I haven't noticed any drivability issues yet. I think I need to buy a OBD2 code reader. :)

Ah well, it was the stupid gas cap. They reprogrammed the ecu and tcu per some TSB though.
