Can I just get bulbs for my Max instead of the HID's

It seem rather expensive to get HID's for my Se and I ws just thinking of just getting some Xeon or Polarg bulbs instead...have any of you guys done this, and if so, wht type of bulb would I need for the SE (I have the lower end one that didn't come with the HID lights).

You can get aftermarket bulbs that will fit. They will not have the same light output as the OEM bulbs, but you will get to choose a different colour temperature.

If your goal is to see better, you won't reach it. If your goal is to change the colour of your lights, then the sky is the limit as far as options for you.

One of the 900X series. I forget exactly which. Whichever it is, it will be a single filament bulb, not the dual filament hi/low style.

Oh yeah, the OEM bulb is a 9012. The 9011 will fit, and will give a higher lumen output, with a tradeoff of shorter lifetime.

I myself am looking to replace the factory HIR2/9012 with an HID equivalent. I looked into it and found that the 9012 bulb is dual purpose high/low. It is the same as an 9005 high beam or 9006 low beam. I have not found any high/low HID conversion kits for the 04 Maxima and am still looking. I do not want to loose my high or low beams.

The thing is, the HIR2 that our Maximas' have is better than a Halogen bulb, does not last as long, but provides better visibility.

If you want the better visibility and a better look, i think HID is the way to go if you can afford it. But if you want Halogens, like CanadianMoFo mentioned, the sky is the limit.
