Chroming Stock Wheels

Hello everyone. I have a 2004 SE Maxima with the 18 inch wheels and was thinking about chrome plating them. ANyone know how much this would probley cost? And where to go, (what type of shop) ? Thanx

Tek-Niq 01-10-2005 04:55 PM

something like 200 a wheel, I was thinking the same thing....... the shop I got is an do it all shop, they do interior, body work, collition, audio they do it all.... I couldn't tell you other wize....

ebay has the chrome exchange program...

You send them your alloys, they send you chrome ones dipped. they mail you the chrome ones first, so you dont have to be without wheels;

why won't you add some more money and get some aftermarket rims?

Littlepat 01-10-2005 09:40 PM

I went the same direction...chrome-plated the OEM rims, I love the way they look and am never satisfied with aftermarkets anyway. I went to a place called "Al's Hub Caps" in Mineola, Long Island. It was 700 and some change for the set, I ordered them a few days in advance and was in and out of there in about 30-45 minutes. Half the price of aftermarkets, I still get compliments on them and I didnt have to worry about what size tires to put on either...

Did mine at my dealership. Cost $600 bucks. LOVE IT and get compliments all the time on them.

That looks very good...I didn't think the dealership would do that......

looks great never really thought of doing it but now I am...Anyone know wnayone in New York area that would do it? Kinda cant do the exchange because one rim may be slightly bent...i would have to check it out first...

My 05 XX (Nissan's code name for our cars) came with the chrome rims and they look great I was suprised to see that it is not the same rims that are on the other Maxima's. There are only 5 spokes instead of 6

I am powdercoating my wheels gunmetal. Can't wait.

bigcozz 01-11-2005 10:02 AM

Anyone reccomend a dealer or a shop that i can exchange or get the one i have dipped. Also doest having the wheels dipped make the alloy weaker? I have heard stories of the wheels becoming bad after being dipped. I asked nissan and the said $1500 for the OEM Chromes is that true?

JiuJitsuThug 01-11-2005 10:59 AM

Mossy Nissan in San Diego did the wheel exchange for me at $600 as stated above. I have had them for over a year and have had ZERO problems with them...

Best of luck to ya!

Apollos2 01-11-2005 09:27 PM

Yeah $1500 for the chrome ones from the dealer. btw- those dipped stock rims of JiuJitsuThug look REALLY sharp. I like the six spoke and angles on the stock rims, too bad the dealer replacements are only 5spoke.

If I was sure they would hold up, I would probably just dip mine as well.

pae1215 01-11-2005 09:45 PM

as long as you stay away from snow salt and those chemicals to clean your wheels (some car washes have that chemical to remove brake dust and other crap) your dipped rims will last some time.

LOL, live in Colorado. No snow salt except on my driveway and plenty of Mag-chloride on the streets. I think thats bad for chrome in general. I did find a seller on Ebay selling some triple plated stock rims $805.

$450 sounds a lot better to me. I would actually do that.

i wanted to paint my rims to gunmetal but everywhere i go they were trying to charge me $150~$200. my rims only cost me $265 a piece...

SEmy2K2go 01-11-2005 11:54 PM

How much extra weight did the chrome add to each wheel?

That should look freakin' awesome! Post some pics as soon as you do it.

04 maxse 01-12-2005 10:49 AM

The Guy I'm using is 100 per wheel. I am going to do my stocks real soon.. I will post pics when i do.

ceehan 01-12-2005 11:01 AM

to think i was about the spend the extra 1500 on stock chromes. Good thing i joined this forum. Now I just have to find someone in the nyc area who can do it for about 500-600.

JiuJitsuThug 01-12-2005 12:25 PM

Thanks for the compliments guys. I've had mine dipped for about a year and they are still holding up PERFECTLY. Really happy with it and almost everyone that sees the rims thinks they are aftermarket - lol.

As for the extra weight, I'm not sure on that one. Figure it added some extra lbs but not as many as adding 20' rims would :) I've been adding as many bolt on mods as possible to try and negate any loss I may have had with the extra weight - lol.
Peace
JJT
