Stupid questions
 

Guys and Gals,

I just purchased my 05 Maxima and it is my first V6 car so of course I have a silly question. I noticed that when I accelerate (especially on the highway) that my car makes a low level rumbling sound, almost like a throaty gargling sound. It's stays until I let go of the gas. Is this normal, I never noticed it until today?

Well you know, there are people out there that moved up the HP ladder really, really slowly, so they're used to it... but other people go from a 33 BHP Ford Pinto straight into a Max, and it's a shock... :)

A couple of years ago I was going to the casino and my friend "volunteered" to drive my other car. You have to make sure you ask people right off the bat what they're used to and tell them what to expect... My other car is a 215HP RWD coupe, and anybody that's used to driving FWD 100hp matchboxes is surprised by the jump when they hit the gas.

If you've moved up from a low-end 100hp POS up to a Maxima incrementally then you're not surprised by it, but there are plenty of people out there that get floored by what a "sports sedan" can do. Hey, at least he's in the car, and not one of those 4-bangers on the road that you have to flex on... I swear, sometimes I know that their teeth are clenched and they're putting their foot down, but all they see is Maxima tail lights getting smaller and smaller... :)

I did! and with regards to your question, I think that's just how the engine sounds when accelerating. but mind you, I've driven 4-cyl before and the 6th gen is really more quiet when accelerating compared to the 4-cyl!!! HAVE FUN!!! :woot:

Thanks guys for all the support. You're right, I made a big jump. I was driving a very very old Mazda Protege and that's the only car I've ever had until my Maxima. Boy, was I shocked. It's nice being able to pass other drivers going uphill for a change. While I'm at it I might as well ask another question. The other day my heat starting hissing, almost squeling when it went on. I took it back to the dealership and they had to re-seal the heat box as the seam had a gap/leak in it. Well as of today the hissing has come back. Has anyone else encountered this. I was hoping that for spending 30+ on a car I won't have to deal with these probs.Thanks again!

Before the Max I tested the new Audi S4 and when you put your foot in that car it throws you in the back seat. The problem was the lease rate $986.00 per month $4,800 down for three years, but that car is a rocket ship with 4 wheel drive.

these cars came out new with a few bugs, the 05 has been improved over the 04 in many ways but still might have some bugs to get worked out..... if its new just go back to the dealer.... make sure you write down every time you went to the dealer for this problem just incase is a lemon........

I too had a Mazda before i jumped in a Max, it was a 929. It took a while for me to adjust to the difference when i began driving my max, but i happily adjusted.

I wouldn't characterize it as a gargling sound, more like a ballsy growl that will let you know that the VQ is working. ;)

Hey guys I had a 1995 Toyota Tercel (around 83 hp) and was also surprised by the power on my 05 MAX. But Adrian, you should expect to hear the VQ growling... and everybody else will look like they just stopped to see you passing by.... nice ride huh???
Ohh and just to make it a point... I hate Hondas, almost to the point of racing every Accord, Civic, TL or TSX on the road, and the Max moves sooo much better.

Great story the other day I was driving on Casino drive near Needles highway here, some dumb girl from California was in a hurry and tried to pass me well once the pedal went to the floor I heard the best sound you can imagine and that dumb blonde was sucking VQ dust!!!

That sound is perfectly normal my friend, it's called HORSEPOWER! :woot:

NIKV69 - Be careful about flaunting your power: Smokie can be anywhere. Also, if a girl/woman/anything female from California/anywhere on earth wanted to pass me, I would practically take to the ditch to let her. I would feel to do otherwise would almost be tantamount to striking a lady. OK, maybe a little exaggeration here . . .


adriantevan - I get the same noise. It would be possible for Nissan to mute it, but that would defeat one of the primary reasons for buying a sports sedan. The 'secret' is (and Nissan knows this) to find just the right level and sound. The choice of muffler/resonator is critical. I feel Nissan chose well.

I hear ya but these twits from CA get on my nerves, they are flakey and drive like complete morons so I had to teach her a lesson. She had no reason to be passing on this stretch of Casino drive.

In reference to what you said about the sound and mufflers I had the most bizarre dream last night! :wtf: I was installing a Borla exhaust on my new Max! :hyper:
Worse! When I was done there was no exhaust tips! :snap:

I was glad when I awoke! Needless to say no Borla on my car, I like the stock exhaust!
