Homelink mirror

I have the Homelink mirror and cannot get it to work with my garage door. When I press the button on the homelink unit the red light turns on, on the garage door opener but nothing happens. I have a Genie screw drive wich is about a year old, does anyone have any ideas? I also hear the homelink system has problems and there are a lot of them that don't work.

Your door opener unit has a security system built in that changes the codes constantly. Read the Maxima manual carefully and you can get it to work with your car's transmitter. Briefly, do this:

- Clear the mirror transmitter's memory by holding down the two outside buttons for a couple of minutes until the light flashes rapidly
- Synch it to the garage door opener by holding the Genie transmitter against the mirror and simultaneously pressing one of the mirror buttons and the Genie button. Do this until the mirror's light flashes rapidly, then more slowly again.
- Next, get your car under the door opener unit. Then, press the "learning" button on the back of the opener unit (the thing on the ceiling of your garage). A light will come on on the unti, and you will have 30 seconds to get in the car and press the mirror button you want to assign to the door opener. Press and hold that button for a minute and you should be good to go. My door opener unit flashes the light bulb attached to it when the programming is successful, but yours may not.

You need to press the button 3 times during the last step. That's where I was failing. You may want someone to help you so you can get it right.

Garage door openers vary a lot. I don't have to press mine 3 times on the last step, but you may. In fact, on that last step, mine blinks the opener light (confirming programming) almost as soon as I touch the mirror button I want to program! YMMV ...
