If your looking to buy an injen cai I can get you a brand new one for 239 shipped. PM or email me at sales@autoperformancedirect.com

DeusExMaxima 02-18-2005 06:14 PM

Which is better, Berk or Injen. I CANT DECIDE!!!!

jcton20s 02-18-2005 06:25 PM

I have an Injen so I guess I am partial....

I've got a Berk CAI and love it! Theres alot of people on the forum that have 'em. They are cheaper than the Injen CAI's and from what I hear sound better also. There is a real nice growel when you get up around 3500 RPM's and it straight up screams over 5000 RPM's.
As far as performance gains, I seriously doubt you're gonna notice any difference between the Injen, Berk or Stillen CAI. I wish I had a pic to post of mine, but heres a link to Berk's website. Maybe somebody else could post some pics of their Berk.

It's subjective. You are doing it primarily for the sound right?

The Injen mounting bracket problem would make me lean Berk, but cold air is always better than hot air. But the Injen mounting bracket...

Go buy a K&N filter and some pipe at home depo, you can make a $5 cold air intake...

bluemaxx 02-19-2005 10:31 AM

:Puke: .

SilverBelle04 02-19-2005 10:36 AM

while you're at Home Depot - buy some chicken wire and make yourself a new grille too !

I'm talking out my *** because I haven't had one but... It should be intuitively obvious to the most casual observer that if you hang that big *** intake on the bracket provided the weld or the tubing will break from fatigue. You don't need to be an engineer to see that.

So do these things honostly help anything or is it just for looks and sound?

Seems to me that these high output engines of today's new cars are so well designed and finely tuned right from the factory that anything short of an ECU change/chip/flash to get a small increase in performance with a small decrease in emmisions performance or forced induction wont get you very far. Basically just not respond to mods like old generic engines can because new ones are already there for the most part.

I don't pop the hood except at the Kwik Change oil place so... I say it's for sound, which is sweet. The dyno sheets I've seen don't impress me much. IIRC, the Berk did the best numbers on the dyno. I suspect the Injen is probably better in real world, that is with the hood closed and in traffic, conditions. The OEM setup with the resonator seems to be almost as good. Someone posted up some dyno numbers last summer that seemed to show that the OEM airbox with a K&N drop in outperformed the aftermarket intakes.
But the sound from an aftermarket might be worth more than the HP boost.

yup. That is pretty much my guess also. Nothing wrong at all with getting one for the look and sound since they arent that expensive, but I think any power increase would be very minimal and insignificant.

What does intrigue me about this V6 are all the other vehicles this engine is in, with various amounts of rated power. It makes me wonder just how much stuff if anything is significantly different as far as manifolds, cams, etc go between the different cars, or if they are all relatively the same and simply are just detuned. It would be awsome if the ECU could be changed, chipped, or flashed and bump us up to the near 300hp of the 350z and infinitis right out the box like that. Even if it is different cams or something internally that is holding it back, it would still be worthwhile if it would see those levels. 30-40hp is a very significant difference in power. You wouldnt normally see that kind of increase without some major internals work making it a little less streetable (good idle quality, not TOO picky on gas and timing, etc) or else going to juice or forced induction on a modern engine. Your never gunna see that kind of power with a handfull of simple bolt ons despite all the wild claims and doctored dyno charts they advertise. Barring the engine being almost totally different inside and out despite being the same series, you would think there is some reasonable way to achieve similar power that the higher rated cars are getting.
