Maxi's chrome mouldings gone dull...
Somehow, the mouldings on the roof only have gone dull on Maxi...
Cant explain how.... youd think both roof and back windsheild would go dull but this is just the roof...strange....

Called the dealer let him know how annoying this is... taking her in on thursday (wont settle for a repair or polish - only replacment).

some of us had this prob... you will have to take it to the dealer and get them taken out and replaced with the 2005 max ones.... somehow it gets moisture in there and dulls it..
**** warning **** the if dealer doesn't know how to do it they can crack the windshield.... this is very hard to do.. they can also bend the trim while putting it on and you will have to go back again...
if you do this be ready for the worst and after install check for cracks on the windshield.. take it from experiece...

nah i don't think they would... these are the 2005 max ones they replaced them with and look more together than the 04 ones that dull...
I know what you mean, I replaced the roof ones also not the rear ones by the windshield..

Thanks for posting this one guys I just thought it was my problem to deal with. Mine is in the shop as we speak with many problems I will ask them about this issue tomorrow. It does look pretty cheezy! This is why I love this site.

Update:
Dropped her of at 9:00am... they finished at 11:00am.
Both roof mouldings replaced with new ones under warranty, no charges.
EDIT: Check windsheild for cracks or scratches - none found - thanks for this tip!

DULL Chrome
I seem to be experiencing the same problem but noticed something funny.
There appears to be clear film over the top of these pieces which is starting to bubble and peel.
Initially I thought it was a protective film applied at the factory that the dealer had forgot to remove. It even looks as though they attempted to remove it.
Is there any chance they ship these cars with a clear film on this trim?
Thank you

Car covers or putting in a garage (if you have one) may help lesson the problem. Direct sunlight no matter where you live will get the best of any paint or trim over time. Thanks for the post dudes, this will be something I keep an eye out for as well...

Dealers explanation: The chorme mouldings come with a clear film over the mouldings. This film is removed by the dealer before sale. However, sometimes when this film is removed, it removes the protective coating over the chrome making it react with the elements and go dull.
Whoever has dull mouldings.. go get em change, its covered!

Well, on mine there is a covering over the roof moldings, not the back and and front windshields..I think it was supposed to stay liek that because most cars I see have it that way. Right ramberg, gotta be the sun, mines garaged 75% of the time...no problems at all, and I live in a colder climate.

bottom of the page, my before and after pictures...
tell the stealership that all maximas with this problem are being replaced under warrenty due to the removal of the protective coating from the mouldings when the plastic cover is ripped off.

mine are different shades too. but what can you do? replace and replace until 36k miles is up? then what? doesn't bother me much. does suck for perfectionists knowing they are different materials and nothing can be done.
so Hz, are you saying if a protective coating stays in-tact, they won'r discolor?

sorry I do not have before pics....
but, compare this to your chrome trim and if it don't look like that get it repaired...
bottom trim is the rear top is the roof/front one
I put my hand in the way so you can see that they are the same, and shine the same.
I use invisible glass and a micro fiber towel to clean them....

Hi guys, I just noticed that mine is getting dull. I called the dealership and they said it is not covered in 36K warranty, it was covered in 12K for the outside trim (mine is 18K now), I've never heard that policy before. Should I go to another dealership? what do you guys said when you had yours replaced?
They give me a price for $75 each for the chrome piece and 85 for installation.
Thank you
Ronald
