Is something wrong with the transmission???
 

I have a 05 Maxima SE Automatic with 5k miles on it. I've noticed from when I purchased it new I always have to pull the emergency brake if I'm on any type degree of slant on the road before I put it in park. If I don't pull the e-brake and put the car in park the car will move slightly putting stress on the transmission, so when I get back in the car and take it out of park you hear/feel a thump (of course I know that's bad) so I have made it a habit to pull the e-brake in almost all situations before I put it in park. I know on my other cars front and rear wheel drive cars I have never had to do this as much only on extreme slants. The other day pulling in the driveway with the car in drive the car would roll back if I didn't stay on the gas or on the brake which seemed odd that the car with the amount of power this car has couldn't hold the hill in drive. My drive way is not very steep. I'm just wondering if this is normal with this car or should I take it to the dealer and ask them to look at the transmission but of course I don't know what to tell them to look at and I don't want the run around either. Any help will be greatly appreciated!!!!

thats normal, the car is just locking itself in place... the noice is the tranny trying to move out of that lock possition thats all..

Yep, it's normal. my old truck and the ex's 5th Gen both do it in the driveway. Get used to using the brake. Sometimes it gets stuck really good on a steep incline.

That's normal, my driveway is the same (slopped) and at least your doing the right thing on an incline, setting the E brake first, then putting it in park, too many people think the tranny is a kick stand, again, nothing to worry about.

But, when you decide to leave, make sure you put your foot on the brake, then realease the e-brake, then put it in reverse... if you do not do that, then there is practically no point to putting the e-brake on when you park your car...
