my friends new (used)'04 Maxi won't start

So my co-worker just picked it up yesterday, from a used car type place.

He went to fill his tank today and his car would not start for 10 minutes. It is an automatic. He wondered if it were possible to "flood" the car as in years past, but I didn't think it were possible.

Any ideas as to why this occurred?

*he thought perhaps the car had started but was to quiet he didn't hear it? Is the engine that quiet? He didn't have his stereo up loud, but I doubt he wouldn't hear his engine since the radio would come on seconds after the ignition turns.*

...well...

he's upgraded from a '96 to an '04, so he was still in that "new car dumbfounded by Nissan's upgrade in technology" mode, and honestly he has had little more to offer as it occurred.

I am a seasoned altimas.net-er, so you can believe that I've tried to get as much of an accurate series of events from him, but alas...

The motor is almost silent at idle in my 04.

When I start my 2.5 Alti, you can hear it roar!

Could be a crank postion sensor issue.

Key chip issue???? Just guessing

theres no way u can not hear your engine start you will feel little something too

Take it back to the dealer to get checked out.

its most likely what was already mentioned crank position, or chip in key. One other thing thats possible is if he locked the doors and unlocked them through an open window lets say, rather then use the remote the VDS will disable the car from starting.

I can assure you thought that theres no way the car actually started and he didnt realize it lol.

*UPDATE*

It appears as if it was the valet key, strange as that is. He had the same issue over this last weeekend, and this time took notice of the series of events.

He used the valet, did not start at all. He removed it a used the correct key and it started.

So the valet is wrong then? Perhaps for the wrong car...:gotme:

Blulytes May 8, 2006 06:41 AM

Valet key? uh... I just bought an 04... should i have a valet key? I just got 2 full keys.

CanadianMoFo May 8, 2006 07:31 AM

Yes its should have come with two drivers keys (black) and one valet (burgundy).

......................................Correct!

boondoxmax May 8, 2006 09:05 AM

Does he have a mobil speed pass on his key ring. Those have been known to cause issue with interferance when trying to start the car

NismoMax80 May 8, 2006 09:22 AM

how does someone not realize the valet key is different? well if it opens the door, then it is for his car, just not programmed.

The dealer may need to redo all his keys, just call.
