Possibly bad rotors...
 

I was wondering if this will be fixed by "shaving" the rotors or do I have to change the entire thing. And how much am I looking at to spend if I'll have it "shaved" and if I'll have it changed. Thanks a lot guys!

I dont think the whole shaving thing is better? its better to just replace your rotors and the price depends on what your getting OEM or aftermarket... but for prices check out the group buys, there some brembos in there for a decent price.

just an fyi shaving is called "turning" and as long as there is enough metal there then its just as good as a new rotor, you will only have trouble if they get too thin they will warp more easily. Whoever turns your rotors will inspect the thickness and warn you if they are getting too thin that they need replacement.

You don't need to shave them on every brake pad change. Only shave your rotors if you feel the car shaking while braking.

Ive driven 66,000 miles on the original rotors with no warping, If you have been hard on them you should just replace them.

that's the thing...it does shake when I brake! So I guess I need to "turn" it then.

Let me just say that I replaced my rotors with Brembo blanks and Hawk HPS pads and they work very well. It's amazing how as the brakes heat up they perform better.

While on the subject of brakes, I don't like OEM pads because they tend to fade. When they heat up during traffic, the response is poor. On my 6th gen, I'm waiting for the OEM pads to wear out before trying the Hawks. But on my 4th gen, I have been using Bendix IQ which does not fade. For rotors, I went with Bembro blanks.

My OEM rotors warped around 19K mark. I later changed to ceramic Akebono and the braking has been good for the last 23Kmiles and going. My car was shaking pretty bad then. But the shop didnot have to cut the rotors. They just need to "lathe" them instead which is a very mild resurfacing. That was enough to cure. Good ceramic pads would help avoiding the warpage. I would suggest you to just change out to good ceramic pads and keep the OEM rotors. Aftermarket rotors won't help much for street use. They may even cause some noises.

Just go to the group buy section and buy new RTP rotors and ceramic pads from automax95 for around $200-300 bucks

Exactly, I bought the rotors from http://www.importrp.com and the pads from AJUSA.

That's unheard of. OEM rotors suck big time. I bet there is nobody else on this forum who can make that same statement.

MAN, get some BREMBO blanks in the group buy section and you'll see the difference. You will waste money turning them only to get the same problem sooner than later down the road.

I'm needing the same thing! I am getting a bad shaking when I brake! Time for some goodies!

UPDATE: I had the rotors "turned" yesterday (paid $48 plus tax) and it took care of the shaking! I hope this will last for another 50K miles...

I need Rotors
 

I want to put new brakes on my 04 Max this weekend. I just ordered the Hawk HPS pads from tirerack. I ordered the Brembo rotors as well, but they are out of stock. I was paying 68 per rotor along with only say $22 shipping for 2 days. I've looked all over the internet and can't find anything close to that, does anyone have any advice??

I'm not looking for anything pricey and I heard most people go with Brembo.

I got after market rotors that are larger diameter and thicker than the OEM's and are cross-drilled, vented and cadmium plated with Hawk HPS Carbon/Metalic pads and I went with after market for the rears too except not cross-drilled. I had to buy a shim plate for the rears too. They are increadibly quiet and amazingly good. I have never needed to brake hard cause the car brakes so well with just a bit of foot pressure. Once or twice in the rain the ABS kicked in and the braking was amazing. Much better than stock and I can guarantee anyone that they are better than any stock oem brake you will find on a Camry or Accord or ever the heavier 300C. By the way the head on our Maxima engine is a HEMI too....such shameless marketing crap from Chrysler... The car stops like a sports car...you have to be carefull when there are people behind you that are too close like tailgaters....or they end up in your rear seat LOL!

I've tried everywhere imaginable for front Brembo rotors and no one has any in stock and the earliest I can get them is next Saturday. The thing is, I need them by at least the middle of the week...I would like to get them if not tomorrow than Sunday somehow..I'm so desparate, is it ok to get ones from somwhere like autozone or advanced auto parts? I really dont know much about brakes, but ive heard mixed reviews on those...Can anyone help me out here to let me know what i should do??

Hi guys, been browsing the site for a while and just decided to post. I just purchased the brembo blanks from the group buy. What kind of brake pads do you guys suggest? I do a combo of street and highway driving. I dont race and dont go to the track. Oh, and i want something quiet. any help would be appreciated.

i wouldn't mess with the rotors. That is an area you want to have the best quality of parts. If the mechanic doesn't do a good job shaving, it could result in major problems.

so my steering wheel has been shimmying for while now. at first I figured I would get my wheels balanced and aligned. that worked for the shimmying while I was driving. since then when i brake from say 65 to 35 to get on an off ramp i feel it shimmying real bad. I got my brakes checked out about two months ago and the guy said i should get front and rear pads along with rotors. he didnt go into detail on it just saying that my front pads were more worn than my rears....

I didnt get any at the time based on the price he gave me and I wanted to get the right **** for my car...so i waited and looked into brakes...last week i bought the Hawk HPS and ordered the Brembo rotors but they arent in stock and wont have them in time for my big move to arizona....

i am going through the process of getting my car ready for a road trip to arizona and i got an oil change last night and had them (Sears) check out my brakes.....that guy said they were fine..he gave me a sheet with the dimensions of my rotors showing that there was apparently nothing wrong with my rotors and that i had enough pad left on my fronts and rears....this made me think the first place just had a brake deal and were trying to sell me their pads.....

i have a 60,000 maintenance set up for thursday and they are mounting the new Yokohams Advan S.4's I just bought from tirerack.com....should the new tires make this shimmying go away?

i guess the main question here is, has this happened to anyone before, and do I need new brakes, even if the guy says I dont, or is there a reason why my car shimmy's when i brake fast??????

im not a car aficionado, but im totally confused as to what i need to get this shimmying fixed?
