It's freezing outside
It's below 0 in Illinois right now. I thought our rear view mirrors where heated? I went to a car wash and the mirrors froze up with ice and stayed like that since yesterday.I thought the glass would at least defrost but it never did. Also, The door handles are frozen. I have to push them back down after getting in and out the car.
One more thing, the tires are getting no traction at all. I could drift the Damn car if I'm not careful. Is this normal for the RS-A's in freezing weather? |
ok where do I start...
1. My mirrors are heated 2. I have the same problem with handles when I wash the car in freezing weather (not the smartest thing to do anyway) 3. RSA tires suck big time whether its 0 or 60 outside. Change the tires and see how much better your max will handle. That should be like the 1st mod. |

I'm kinda curious to see how long will it stay like that. Maybe the heated glass isn't working. |
are you turning the rear defroster on? The heated mirror elements initiate when the rear window defroster is in use.

That's crazy! Below 0. Here in Houston, TX we freak out when it gets in the twenties (Which rarely happens). I got all these nice fancy options and I really have no use for em.

Oh.... im sorry..... :P
It was 75 today (Sunday) and it is expected to be 78 on Monday and 77 on Tuesday... :woot: |
just went through a car wash ( - 15C here and windchill -26C)..... my mirrors are clean (kept the rear defrost button on and it works for the mirrors as well)...
remember reading somewhere that they do not put these options in hot climates..... (heating for the mirrors etc) |
i live in hot azz Arizona and I have heated front and back windows.
|
Uhhmm... I never knew the 2004's had heated mirrors. What package did this come with? I've got a 2004 with DPP, so would that mean I have heated outside mirrors?

How many miles do you have on your ride? Go to a Goodyear shop in your area and have them put the car on a lift and check the back side of the tires for cracks. If there are cracks have the call a rep. You might be able to get free tires or pay a small fee for new ones. I had 36,000 miles on the car and I paid 207 for new tires. Installation should be free. I harm in checking it out. Let us know what happens. |

Smokin' Max,
Ramberg isn't kidding. My nephew bought an SE and he posted pictures of his tires here under the tire thread. Do not play with these RS-A's....... Send a PM to Ritz about his tire thread. Goodyear is offering 50% even if the tires are more than 50% worn. The only down side is that if you aren't a Goodyear fan, those tire offers do you no good. The pro-rate is to be used towards another Goodyear tire. Some stores even require that you use it towards more Eagle RS-A's. Don't take lip from your local Goodyear shop either. For the most part, they are aware that these tires are cracking! Also check the sidewall on the INSIDE of the tires stance. |

You have an SL which should have the Conti's 17". To answer your question, no. Just the SE's have the 18" Eagles.

One thing I wanted to add to this discussion is that since I live in the Chicagoland area, which by the way is FREAKIN' cold outside, I got in my car this morning and I kid you not, my address book in my stock navi got erased! :wtf:
Also, all of my previous destinations was erased and when I started my car the screen showed a street in Los Angeles. I am at a loss here fellow Maxima enthusiasts, any advice would be helpful. Can anyone tell me why? Has this happened to anyone else on their stock navi? (2004 SE) |
Never heard of that. Maybe someone else can chime in? Ask maybe in regional forums?
|
When I got in my car the whole info screen lagged badly. When a song would be playing the numbers would slowly dissolve into the next one.
|
the remote start comes in handy in this weather, I would recommend one

Those of you using remote start and not watching the car while it warms up should be aware. Many car thieves are now steeling these cars that are just sitting there running with nobody around. If it is locked, they can break a window. Be careful. The cops don't like this practice and some states (or cities) have made it a ticket-offense to do this. |

SilverMax_04,
VIK is right. With remote start, in order to drive off with the car, you have to insert the key in the ignition and turn it to the 'on' position. Without the key there, once you step on the brake (or in some cases), you try to put it in gear, the car stalls out immediately! Remote start is in no way, an aid to criminals. |
You are undoubtedly correct. But the local news continues to talk about stolen cars from people warming them up.
No I don't have one and don't need one; I park my Max in a garage and don't need to warm it up and waste gasoline in the process. I let the Max warm up (from about 40 degrees in the winter in my garage) as I drive. Save fuel as well. |
Me too! Mine is garaged and 'tucked in' every night.
I just remembered that from my other vehicle. When I had a remote start, it was easy to forget the waste of fuel as well as the extra wear on the engine. When we bought the Maxima, my husband and I decided we won't put one on here. Swee |
Just want to add that in Minnesota the low temp has been an average of -10 for the last week with some nights -20 and I am in the "southerson" part of the state. I have a remote start on my 04 sl and you can set the time the vehilce runs, ie: 10, 20, 30, minutes. Oh, and if you break the window to try to steal the car you will have to press on the break to get the car into gear which automatically kills the engine. Also if you pop the hood while its running from the remote start it also kills the engine..
|
wow..and I thought NYC was cold nowadays with temps in the teens.
