How do you remove scratches from plastic lcd's?

Hello,

I unfortunately have a slight scratch on the instrumental panel :( on the speedometer, i don't know how to get rid of it and i cleaned the plastic of the lcd for the bose system with my finger and it left scratches there too. is there anyway at all for us maxima folks to take care of plastic scratches and bring them back to their original condition? i came across Megiuars Plastx - Any experiences with the product or any other suggestions?

P.S: i posted this here because i know majority of us go only through this forum. Thanks for the help in advance.

can someone please help? it's really bothering me. what do you guys use to remove scratches of the guages and lcd panels? i just want to look nice and shiny with no scratches whatsoever. they're minor hairline scratches.

Man, I feel your pain, I wouldn't want to spend money buying some new gauges.
I would say try out the PlastX, it's only about $4 at Walmart. I'm not sure if it works for scratches, but it surely removes any dullness from clear plastic.

BTW, I did try ScratchX, since I bought my Maxima used with a minor amount of scratches. It works very well, one of my big scratches almost disappeared and the little ones I can't see anymore. Most importantly, my clearcoat is in perfect condition, it didn't damage it at all which I'm very surprised about. I'm extremely satisfied with ScratchX, excellent product. Who knows, maybe PlastX will do the same.

I think you can just take out the plastic and replace it. Gec on the forum here had these custom cut from plexi and another member has mentioned that there is like a protective clear film on it and you might be able to just peel the whole thing and it will look like brand new. Search the forums.

There's a solution that covers scratches on eyeglasses, maybe something like that will work. I'm not familiar with the Maguiar's stuff, but it won't hurt.

I have some scratches on the silver part that surrounds the shifter too and it drives me nuts. Couldn't find anything to cover 'em up with

UPDATE -

ahhh - f* gr8 !!! i bought meiguars plastx today, ok i used it and at first, i thought it got rid of the scratches cause i couldnt see any but when it dried up - i could still see them so i used a bit more and i used it on the other lcd's too now here's what happened, i did this in my basement so when i drive up and the sun was out - f*** the damn product discolored that entire scratch area so basically in a certain angle it looks like it's a different color but it's left an amazing glaze/shine so in other angles it looks pretty polished up and i don't really see the scratches -

ok well only if you look very carefully, you can see minor scratches and with the other 2 lcd's - i do see the scratches from an angle but then again it's left a polished look so in the dark or under the shade - it looks like it's a brand new lcd and it's all polished up but if sunlight falls on it - then you do see some minor scratches - i don't know - i'm contemplating on getting it replaced by the dealer, let's see what happens.

Hey trance not sure if you read my other post on the other org, but its a $5 fix bro...don't get all ruined about it bud...if you don't get it fixed when I pull out my dash again in a week or so I'll cut you a new one and send it to you...

hey gec, thanks a lot for the offer, bro. i really appreciate it - well, the part that i need is the centre speedometer plastic cover, that's scratched up :( and i drive an 07 max so i'm going to still find out if the dealer will replace it and for the rest of the lcd's - i don't have navi, i have the different console where the screen's split into two in the 07 max's. let me know what you can do and i'll call the dealer tommorow as well and see if they can replace it for me, thanks once again.

Great information. I'll have to try that solution on my gages.

SmokeNismo May 14, 2007 12:08 PM

I just got that Meguiar's Plastix solution, but I've only used it to polish/protect my headlights not on any interior parts and it seems to work a little bit.
