Keeping Top Lights Out

The turn signal light is always lit (dimly) while having the headlights on at night.

I'd like to keep this light OUT while driving, while still allowing the turn signals to work.

Is this possible? Has anyone done it? Would I have to cut wires, rewire wires, pray?

Thank you!

Joshua

like i posted before. very simple.

just place a piece of tape over the constant on node on the bulb.
you only see hid as i come at you, or with yellow fogs, or hid fogs.

Why not just put a switchback in there? It won't CURE your problem but it'll certainly look better.

jsmithsole 11-25-2007 09:39 PM

First off. very illegal. Secondly, just change the color to wht or go switchbacks as Mack said...here's a pic of mine:

As far as I know, the amber side markers are supposed to show and if the light is out on the front, it doesn't illumniate the side marker. In Ohio they probably wont bust you for it but I know Cali is way strict on its car mods.

OT. JSMith, what fogs are you running on your old 6th gen nose? Looks good in the night pic, got any day pics?

jsmithsole 11-26-2007 07:49 AM

True, that bulb illuminates the side marker as well. And I added some LED running lights a few weeks ago.

Why would it be illegal? I've never had an extra pair of yellow lights on any other car I've ever owned that run with the headlights - just the headlights. Am I missing something here?

Every other car I've ever owned hasn't had a lit sidemarker either. I don't see how this is illegal?

PennDOT law I have seen simply stated:
headlights must be white
front markers amber
rear lights red
rear markers amber or red

never stated Park lights must be on while moving.
many cars are made without Park lights on with headlights.
besides if they are on, white would be considered illegal, since stated needs to be amber.

NC law says the same thing, but specifies that front SIDE markers have to be amber. That it why I didn't clear the markers when I painted mine black... I don't think the color from the front matters here...

I have absolutely no problem with having the lights amber. All I want is to have the front light out while in motion. I don't want the orange look from the front. I'm going to take Nismo's advice.

cyclopsmd youre right, at least in maryland, as a cop i can tell you there is nothing wrong as far as i know with the front lights not having amber color, the law here has a section for "dazzling effects", which some prick cops may try and charge you with for the turn lights, if they distract other people.......as for other states...not sure....

this probably doesnt help your initial question though philo...sorry

No prob man. I'm positive it isn't illegal. There are a million cars without yellow amber lights that are in operation with the headlights. I believe that the reference of illegality was in dealing with this causing the sidemarkers to be out during operation at night, which to the untrained eye looks just like a turn signal anyway.

I don't see how you could get caught. Having the orange lights on all of the time looks tacky to me.

Sorry maybe I jumped the gun, on the law. It just seems like most cars do have some type of side marker at least (which is what our forward facing on illuminates) Mine are covered up with overlays anyways!!!

cyclopsmd 11-26-2007 09:35 PM

philo, i can't remember, but have you considered switchbacks? That is what I have, and instead of an amber light in front it is super white light, but then blinks amber...

BadBlackMaxSL 11-27-2007 08:13 AM

As I looked over the Ohio laws, the foward facing lights don't have to have an amber bulb but the side marker needs to be on and that can be either amber or white. Weird.

Jsmithsole,

Not to thread jack but I'm curious too. What LED lights are you running on your OEM front? I like the look!

Wait, so over the top nub of the bulb I would have to put a piece of tape ? Or is it the bottom nub of the bulb ?

there is no top or bottom nub. just try one. before reinstalling, test it. if you must switch the tape.

did you ever write up how you wired your fogs to come on without headlights?
