High pitched rattle when accelerating approx 1500-2000 rpm

Hey. I get a kind of high pitched rattle when accelerating slowly, I think it might be a heat shield issue, but I've looked under the car and everything seems tight.... Where's the known problematic heat shield ?

Will nissan fix that for free or I should just get under the car and rip something off?

oh brother - this has been discussed exactly 1,258,258,12 times...... there is even a TSB for this .....

Hint: go to the TSB section, find the TSB for this heat shield problem, print it and bring it with you to the stealership..... I did that and the service guy's reaction was:

Larsim: Hey man - i have the heat shield problem and here is the TSB for it
Service guy: Looks at Larsim like WTF! and says and I quote "where did you get this from?!"
Larsim: From the Maxima.org
Service guy: Oh, ok - there might be a diagnostic fee -but if the problem really is the heatshield - then that fee is waived
Larsim: Come on man - you know it is the heat shield....
Service guy: Yea - but I have to tell you this regardless....

Bottom line: Got it fixed for free

Dealer was out of the replacement part last year when I had mine fixed. Exhaust shop re-welded it for like $20 no problems since.

I found this using the search option on the top right - seeing that you are a newbie, I'm going to assume you did not attempt this originally ->

Here you go:

Service Bulletin Num : 05021
Date of Bulletin: MAR 14, 2005

Component: ENGINE
Summary: 2004-2005 MAXIMA AND QUEST; EXHAUST RATTLE / BUZZING
NOISE PRESENT DURING ACCELERATION

Not sure if this has changed in the coming years, I just went to my tech guy and he welded it up (cost me few coronas)

Here's a link for all the TSB's you'll ever need. Just sign up/join and you'll be able to download 2 tsb's a day.

i have a question why mines is only when i first start the car and then when i drove the car for like 10 min or so there is no more noise , is this a different problem or the same , cause for me is only when i first turn on the car after a long time (8 hours or so).
