bit the bullet...new trans :| :)

Well after spending weeks trying to figure out what to do..I went to a shop that I know the owner of (a lee myles trans shop) and asked his opinion..and because I went for so many miles with having my 6MT making so much noise and all..I went ahead and bought a rebuilt 6mt straight from nissan..with a decent warranty..an oem clutch..and gonna get flywheel service (not sure what that consists of) of course in the near future I will replace the slave cylinder first..and if that doesnt solve the "mystery hot weather clutch" problem will do the master cylinder also. So figure Ill give yall a price on what this cost because me having 100,000 + miles..and the tranny bearings go (which is apparently common) some of you may run into the same ordeal (although I hope you don't..because you wont like this) All in all it is costing just over $2800 :/ But I love the max and I will repair it until it dies..because I really love the car. I plan to get at least another 100,000 healthy miles out of this engine..and it will happen.

Yeah...i couldnt believe it... but I DID ask about why this happened..I asked about my driving habits. I told him i usually accelerate briskly..and I beat on it sometimes..like nothing crazy but hard shifting sometimes and high speed downshifts (near redline) they told me that driving the car hard is not what causes bearings to go.. it could be wrong fluids..mixture of fluids.. poor craftsmanship (in a Nissan trans??? NOOOO... NEVER!!!!!!!) ...so I am staying OEM fluid from now on..so theres no chance of breaking anything down. All in all..dont stop having fun with your cars because you hear of trans problems..just watch for the dreaded grinding/whining/rubbing sounds you start to hear. Thats it saying.. I'm getting sick..

Y2k2maxse, Don't worry, you will get 100,000 more miles out of your Max and a wife that you can love as much.

Congrats on 100k. Not so bad if you can make it that far before a major repair. (My 86 Corolla took me 10yrs 155k with only the powersteering pump evergoing out.) I personally think its the build quality, just too many going down, anyway I love my Max even though the tranny only lasted 58k, I hope the replacement will take me at least 100k more.

Good luck on your rebuild. Keep us posted!

Well hope everything goes well with the tranny. As far as I know you seem to be the only one to have had a problem with the 6MT. Apollos *knocks on wood* I just hit 60k miles I just hope I don't experience the problem you had. At least I'm covered until 80k.

Problems might stem from simply putting 100,000 miles on it in a few years??? just my opinion

Guys - thanks for all the positive comments and all - I hope everything goes well with this as well. Im sure it will...I was thinking before...I have changed my tranny fluid twice by myself..both times used redline mt-90. I had ghettoed up some small rubber tubes to route the fluid from above the engine bay into the fill hole. I was never really careful with it..so maybe a few specs of dirt had gotten in and slowly ruined the bearings? Also I saw some fluid on the bottom of the tranny.so it started to leak somewhere recently. And regarding ihavea2kmaxima's comment..i have taken a few roadtrips in the civic..lol its just not as fun. Its slow..leans in corners like a ..mothe..... err boat and yea..its auto. :/

Glad to hear that man

Just a question. How is the feeling of the new clucth now? Same, stiffer or softer? Did you go w/ OEM clutch?

OEM clutch...seems a little lighter pedal pressure..not MUCH lighter..but holy shi*..it grabs...wasnt used to it..went to downshift to 2nd at 45mph to pass someone..double clutched it..and went to hit the gas like i used to and the thing grabbed and the wheels chirped HARD the person in front of me swerved over a lane...she thought someone was skidding behind her..haha..the clutch also engages closer to the floor now.
