Rear underbody mod
Im not sure what to call this mod. When I was making the rear diffuser, I noticed that under the right rear of the car, there is a huge opening behind the wheel well for air to get trapped and swirl around. Interestingly, on the left side, there is a tin cover over the opening. What the hell was Nissan thinking??
Here is left side:
And here is right side with the open area:
Anyway, I was having post partem depression about finishing my diffuser and needed something to work on. So, I made a covering out of tin I got from Home Depot.
The only tools u needs are wrench and socket to remove muffler and tin snips.
1. Raise the car slightly and remove right muffler. My Magnaflow muffler came off with two bolts. It weighs 15 lbs by the way.
2. Drill to holes on the flat area at the top of the opening
I made the tin cover before hand:
I notched it toward the front and curved it to fit. I made a narrower area in the back and bent it 90 degrees, like the left side tin cover. This appears to minimize air flow to corner of bumper.
3. Install the tin. Its flexible enough to get your hand behind it to hold the bolts for tightening:
Thats it. Here is finished product:

It was pretty easy. The tin is much more flexible than the ABS. U may be able to make it work. I know this isnt a "cool" mod but it may help gas mileage and quiet the car down.
