07 Spoiler Install

I worked on my car for the past month, and as I did my modifications, I wrote and took pictures. Yes, everybody probably has done the following mods already, but for the people who haven't and ask for the how to.

Here it is:
6.5 gen spoiler (07 spoiler) on a 6 gen trunk.

You will need the following:
1. Power Drill
2. Play-Doh
3.Drill Bit Set
4. Measuring tape.
5. Blue tape if you are doing it alone.
6. Heavy Duty 16 Gauge wire kit (You will only need about 1 1/2 feet)
7. Black Electric tape
8. Regular metal hanger/ 3/16 rope

http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...g?t=1220483116

1. Place (2 to 3) play-doh near where you think the holes might be.
2. Once you are sure you have a perfect fit and it's aligned properly, press down to create a mold of the holes.
3. You will need a 7/32 drill bit. (If I'm not mistaken) Just drill away with precision.
4. Direct Light cable through the hole. Keep it inside the trunk.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...g?t=1220483077

5. Guide it through until you hit the left end side.
6. Pull out the rubber cable protector. (WARNING: it took me a very long time to make the cable go in and make come out the other end.)
7. Connect end of the regular light cable to the new extension cable (1 1/2 feet just to be safe) Tape naked connections.
8. Tape rope to the straighten out hanger end. Find your way through towards the right and through the hole of the back light, until it's visible from outside.

Write up 2 (spoiler)

9. Pull out rope and hanger end very carefully. Remove the tape and hanger.
10. Tie the end of the cable to the end of the rope
11. Pull rope from inside the car towards the 3rd light brake hole.
12. Expose 1/2 inch of the 3rd brake light cable and attach the ends of the brake light spoiler cable. Tape it up, plug 3 light cable unit to its original connection. and put it back in place.

Don't forget to screw the screws to the spoiler, otherwise, bye bye mod.
http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a3...g?t=1220484883

This should be your end result. Hope this helps future mods

You're welcome :D

thor von clemson 09-03-2008 04:43 PM

did you buy the spoiler from a nissan dealer? I dig the shot of the back. The combination of the tail lights and the new spoiler look tight!

kronickz 09-03-2008 04:45 PM

hmmm.... this sounds familiar :). Only with pictures...

mudbelly 09-03-2008 04:46 PM

Nice write up - step by step. Too bad I already got the spoiler, but I will remember that clay technique for drilling holes in the future. BTW...what tint are those taillights?

bambino 09-03-2008 04:48 PM

I got it from ebay for a steal of $100 painted and shipped. The dealer will charge you around $200 plus just for the spoiler (not painted) then, $100 plus for paint, labor. Another $100 or so plus for putting it on. I decided to ask them how much it would be just to make sure.

tyman 09-05-2008 05:31 PM

Did the double layered trunk lid from the inside not get in the way of putting the washers and bolts into the trunk lid?

bambino 09-05-2008 07:56 PM

You have to drill through that...:doublethu

thealliance43 09-05-2008 08:26 PM

Yeah, thats what we did...got it installed when it was dark out, heh. Messed up the first time with the drilling of holes though, it was about 1/4" off to one side. :(

All is good though, going to wire up the 3rd brake light tomorrow when its light out.

Good writeup.:)

tyman 09-06-2008 12:06 AM

Btw, when you wired off the 3rd brake light....do you remember which was + and which was - on the spoiler? It just has the solid white wire and the striped wire. I can never remember which one is supposed to be + and -. :o

Use a 9v battery and verify it that way. If you touch the leads the wrong way, a 9v battery isn't enough to blow bulbs, & if you touch it the right way, you'll have a VERY DIM glow, but enough to tell it's on. Best to do it when the sun is setting or in a garage. Good luck.

thealliance43 09-08-2008 06:37 PM

yea thats how i test my leds... through a 9volt... i just bought my spoiler off ebay today to do the modd... kinda pumped! to finish my 6.5 look

cable protector...

I just installed a spoiler on my 2009 Maxima, but gave up trying to get the wire through the cable protector connecting the trunk lid to the car. I have room to put one on the right side of the car, but the dealer won't sell me just the wire protector or even tell me it's proper name or it's part number. Can anyone help?

Thanks!!
Rich

chipmunkaj 07-06-2009 12:34 PM

Hmm, now that i know what a navy blue looks like with smoked lights i still cant decide whether to smoke them or now:confused:

zhaste 07-13-2009 11:58 AM

nice write up, but how much do you think it would cost to be professinally installed?

airforcealton 07-19-2009 02:03 PM

I was charged $176 + tax for fit and paint.... $88 for each

2006maxed 01-06-2010 05:44 AM

I just installed the spoiler on my ride. Your idea with the play doh worked perfect. I layed the spoiler on the clay and put the spoiler exactly where I wanted it. The only problem with it was that I had to remove the wax from the trunk so the clay would stick to the trunk lid. I also used touch up paint after I drilled the holes. I live miami and that sucker will rust quick. Thanks.

Trunks made of aluminum, so it won't rust. (I have been told.) Knock on your hood (its metal) then knock on your trunk (its aluminum). They will sound different in tone.

Nice write up! love that 07 spoiler! cant wait to get one

Sorry to dig up an old thread, but I'm looking for some answers that I haven't found anywhere else.

Has anyone else done this mod BUT LEFT THE FACTORY SE LIP IN PLACE? I've seen that it's a bi-otch to remove and I'd rather not go through that. If anyone else has done this please post pics! Thanks.

One person did a dry fit and it looked like crap. Removing the OEM lip will also leave 3 holes that will have to be filled! I like the 07 lip even better than the G-35 spoiler I put on my car but it did allow me to keep my OEM lip!

I've seen the thread showing the 3 holes and I will NOT be going through that.

Are you saying that your spoiler is a G35 spoiler? Where did you find it? I guess eBay is probably a viable option. There are multiple 6.5 spoilers on eBay for $100 painted and shipped. Maybe one day I'll find a good spoiler to go on it. :( I still wouldn't trade it for nothin' though!!:jump: Love my 6 speed! :mardi:

Yes found it prepainted on Ebay back in 2005, it's a 2005 G-35 spoiler. They're out there...
