Polishing aluminum hood and trunk

When I took my hood off and replaced it with the carbon fiber unit, I noticed the unpainted surface where the hood attached to the hinge, and it was a nice aluminum surface. There is a Bugatti Veyron called a Pur Sang edition in which the paint of the car is removed and the surface is polished revealing the carbon fiber and aluminum and it is one of the most beautiful cars Ive ever seen. They charge about $2 million for it.

This leads me to wonder what the Maxima would look like if the paint from the aluminum trunk and hood was removed and the parts were polished and clear coated. How involved would that be? Would it look good? If so, on what colored car would it look the best? How much lighter would the car be? (just kidding) Is this something anyone would consider? Am I losing my mind? lol Please share your opinions, and photochoppers, please feelfree to photochop this.

Kind of like this? This is a 2008 Mugen Type RR Experimental Spec...I think it is very different and unique. And it would look best on Black or Red. ;)

Maintaining it would be a PITA

Not when you have a nice clear coat on it!!:D

ddelaud 10-14-2008 03:08 PM

it'd be a lot of time and work.

and you'd have to be pretty careful when polishing it cause the hood would warp reaaaaaly easily

JRoX85 10-14-2008 04:13 PM

I think I might try it.

GrimMax 10-14-2008 08:35 PM

Yeah that would be one of a kind huh!?

Who is gonna be the first to do it now is the question? lol

How much would that run for anyways? Estimate of some sort??

It depends on if you do it urself. U need to remove the paint without damaging the metal. Then the entire hood has to be polished and then sprayed with clear coat. Im guessing $500-750??

IHAVEA2KMAXIMA 10-14-2008 09:50 PM

At that price, it's better than the CF hood. lol :) CF is a little played out now IMO.

SEmy2K2go 10-14-2008 10:34 PM

You are losing your mind. That looks horrible.

IMO of course.

jsmithsole 10-15-2008 09:36 AM

Oh thats not that bad for the outcome I guess.

Hood scoop on aluminum hood.

Are there any hood scoops for the aluminum hood for the maxima? I would like to design some new ones, either developed for the aluminum, or a carbon fibre design. Any contacts at manufacturers you would suggest?

I would suggest using the search function over reviving two year old threads.

;)

i clicked on this and then saw i had posted on it and was like WTF i don't ever remember this, then realized it was like a year and a half ago

Sorry... I will remember to use the search better in the future.

Sorry, I will use the search function better in the future, and watch the age.

I was just really excited, due to thinking about this concept since the new Max came out, and my car looks bland.

I should have said, "I want to design an updated body kit to keep the 6th Gen modern. Part of the body kit would be a new inexpensive hood scoop design."

This could be tied into a Cold Air Intake or possibly a shaker hood design with outside guages in the hood scoop facing the drivers line of site.

I agree a higher end model for show would have a feathering / blending issue bonding to the hood. Super show quality designs may need either tiger hair Bondo, or aluminum (lead type) filler. If a great demand warrants manufacturing. The complete hood could be stamped as one unit. (See "www.keystonerestyling.com"

Alot of what you just listed has already been done.
