To the Headlight bakers
Did you guys put the headlights directly on the oven rack or did you put it on something else then place it ion the oven??
1st!
this is the SMARt way to do it, i'v baked dozens for me and other members, 5th, 6th, g35s, etc. get a cookie sheet. take old towel and soak in water. put towell on top of cookie sheet. place headlight on towel on cookie sheet. put in oven. boom you're done. before i didn't use this, but i prefer to do them all this way. note do not use a good towel as it will inevitably get headlight junk on it. a rag would work fine it just needs to be clean and damp. it's also handy to have a bottle of goof off around too. good luck! it's easy and not hard like some people make it out to be. enjoy. and post some pics when you're done. |
thanks torgus. That isnt a bad idea!!
yep same exact thing i do!! and i've done over a dozen the smell of nissan glue coming outa my oven just makes me shake some times!! jkjk

i'm doing my lights today. Since i have the OEM paint basecoat, do i need to buy a clearcoat? I want it to match my car color.
I used cardboard as insulator since water from towel could evaporate. I used clear coat on my headlights.
DO U USE THE SAME OVEN U COOK IN?

I honestly have done it both ways with no ill effects . I also use 220 and leave mine on. Some say not to but as i said i havent melted one set yet and i have opened everything froma c6 headlight to max tails.
Thought I'd also mention that it's very important to make sure the light is completely sealed up again when you're done with your mod.
You'll either want the light 110% sealed OR vented at the bottom to keep condensation from building up. I couldn't get my lights sealed up well enough again after clearing my corners, so I drilled several small holes (out of sight of course) along the bottom of the lense to allow for drainage. Haven't had condensation issues since I did that - which was 2 years ago. -Zach |

Isn't that why they're so cloudy..? I thought you mentioned chemical fog in another thread. I havent read of too many people clearing them. I think a low or non gloss would look the best anyway... My .02¢ |

i'm doing my lights now. Question, i can't reach the 2 screws on the top of the light inside the casing.. could they be baked with the main bulb and housing still connected?
where are the clips behind the projector? isn't there 2 clips that are holding the bulb in? also why did you take out the projector?
I gutted my lights to make sure nothing got melted. I prolly didnt need to do that but since I was the first one to paint the headlights, I was more cautious than I had to be.
i guess its the projector light, per the instructions it said to remove all bulbs.. So i can leave it in?
there are actually four small screws inside the housing where the bulb sits.. but if i can bake with them in then i'm on to the next step

ok, i think i'm clear and ready to bake. Will the connector for the projector need to removed before baking? dont want to melt the wire.
i believe your talking about the wire with the brown connector on the end if it is then no just push it in a lil and you'll be all good check on it in 10 minutes if you smell the glue your good 2 seperate
you wont melt anything... just keep an eye on it and dont bake longer than you need too... I just insulated my wires with a rag ... just made sure nothing was touching the over itself...
Thanks bro, going in the oven now.. fingers crossed...

is this a stock hit or after market? well i dont think that might make a difference but me personally.... now everyone does things differently but i haven't had a problem when i installed my angel eyes i ran the wires out of he grey cover but i drilled a hole pulled the wires out then put silicone all around the wires and hole so theres nothin coming in or out and i haven't had any condensation problems. some say yes drill a hole and it works perfect me i cover all holes that i make if the headlight didn't come that way |
Changing the color of the inside of my headlights.
I need some help with this mod I'm trying to undergo. I want to paint the inside of my headlights black to match the color of my 05 Max. Can someone help me? What are the steps I have to do to make this mod? Also, I want to know what kind of paint I have to use? (spray paint?) Thanks
