I'm outta here - Can't take my lousy Max anymore
I sold my beloved 2004 Smoked Max. Although I loved this vehicle so much in so many ways, I also tremendously hated it as well for all the endless quality issues it had - I won't go into the details here, as you have heard about them ad nauseum. The final straw was when my dealer said he could not get rid of the front end shimmy, after 10 or so tries at it, and thus I would simply have to live with it. In several years of ownership, I must have visited dealers 25-30 times to get things fixed. I will never buy a Maxima again. I went through the 7th Gen Max threads, looks like nothing has changed quality wise. I will never buy a Nissan again.
Nevertheless, I hope you have endless continuous fun with yours. Keep on truckin'! Check my sales threads for items I bought but never installed, including sun roof visor, PAC unit, original grill taken off day one and like new, and even a new Reese trailer hitch made for the Max. Have fun guys and gals. I'm outta here...... |
wow... i hope your not like that with other things in your life.
Imagine buying a mint flavored ice cream and then hating it. Just because the flavor was not for you, you will never buy another ice cream or flavor again. lol I've had an 05 and an 08 Maxima. No shimmy with either car. Good luck in life and with your next vehical. |

These cars do have issues with them without a doubt. |
I agree i love my max but the quilty of the 6th gen sucks i can't beleave that nissan would short themselves on there what is suppose to be there flagship
car |
Nissan has always been and always will be the "Chevy" of Japan.

op: what's your new ride? |
Sounds like you need to take the Ford Challenge! ;)

I'm sure I'll get tired of the 6thgen one day too. There is no perfect car. I can say that GM has better power steering response/assistance than Nissan. The faster the car goes the more sensitive the steering. If I hit the gas to hard before the wheels are straight, It feels like its going to turn into the curb or the corner store or what ever the hell is in that direction. I'm getting gray hair trying to drive this old man's car.....:spin:

This is base on your infinitesimal wisdom I presume? And for the dissatisfied owner, I am sorry for the headaches that your car gave you. I've read your previous posts. You started as a happy new owner and it slowly went downhill from there. Good luck in your future purchase.:shiner: |

car My 08 has better leather seats and cluster lighting. The 09 model improved a little more with the seating and interior. Sure, Nissan can go with higher quality of materials and design. But do we really want to pay the prices of an Acura TL? |
Wish you the best on your next purchase, good luck:bawling:

I am curious to know what other cars he will be looking to buy to replace his
6th gen max |
It seems like every generation had one or more issues with them. (1988 - automatic seatbelts, 1999 - immobilizer & coil issues, 2002, 03 - oil burning, 2004 - ABS issues, front end shimmy)
Nissan always got smart and fixed it for the next Gen. I'm curious to know what finally made him decide to "divorce" the whole company. Maybe his next ride will come from the stable of the always reliable BMW, Mercedes, Volvo, or Lexus family. |
I have a 2004 se first run maxima. I was one of the first on this forum to have the ABS Issue (probably the first) and I have also had the shimmy since purchase of the car.
Wednesday was a godsend for me. I decided to purchase a set of new rims finally. Shimmy went away. I had the nissan shimmy bulletin done twice, endless rim balance, alignments, etc. Nothing ever fixed it, untill I took off my defective nissan rims. It cant be pure coinsidence that all of the people with the shimmy have factory wheels, and the majority report no shimmy after replacing the rims. Should have been a recall on the fac. rims. Mine are warped, I threw them in the trash. btw, im back ;) |
I'm at 89,000 miles on mine and the worse thing that's happened was a torn CV boot.
Curious to know what you're gonna get next. |
what happened to your FS threads ill take some parts from you.
I love my max To each his own though |

Curious to know what you're gonna get next. With all the strut problems that I hear I am very surprised your struts and strut mount are still in tact after 89 K miles. But yeah, you're lucky |
I have Konis in the fronts and AGXs in the back. :D
