Tail light disassembly

Ok so i am installing strobe lights in rear tail lights, I need to open them up. I was able to remove the whole assembly with bulbs, But i cannot seperate the red part from assembly. I need to gain access to the inside of tail lights, especially reverse light.

Sorry, my car is a 2004 maxima.

In case anyone is wondering what are strobe lights, they are strong white blinking lights. I am connecting them to brake lights. So everytime i hit the brake pedal, my tail lights will light up like cops car !

Something like this. but only turns on when i hit brake.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1g8bppRzhc

I apologize but i had to give details in order to better understand why i need to open up tail lights.

I tried installing them, i found 12v power from brake line and i tested them works perfect except the strobe lights are big, and i cannot just install them in reverse light area.i cannot work on them until saturday and thats when i have a day off, until then, i need sum guidance about disassembly. I will post a video to show how they look !

On a side note, saw first ever Nissan GT-R and that too with an undercover cop,,,, lucky bastard !!!!

Just a heads up, as Stormzusmc said, Off road use only. Secondly if god forbid someone rear ends you and they were on they can probably use that against you. As for separating the tailights Ill try to look at my spare set tomorrow morning you might have to bake them like the headlights or they might be a once piece thing.

That could work actually. Just seal it up with silicone after.

I will post the picture for strobes so that you have an idea how big they are, they can't go through the reverse light hole. So i have to make even bigger hole than that.

Nothing personal but this just sounds like a really bad idea, strobe lights are supposed to be for show purposes only. You're also gonna confuse the people behind you, be a distraction, attract unwanted attention, etc. But otherwise good luck with the install, post vids when you're done.

+1... i also think you should just run it to a swtch not when you brake... i'd seriously hate it if every time the person infront of me pressed the brake & all i saw was strobes in my face.. i'd DEFINATELY start flashing you like crazy & probably get infront you & ..... brake....

strobes are just for show purposes... when you take your car to a meet - throw them on... when you chillen w/ peeps - throw em on.. it shouldnt be something for every day use... & just becareful as a undercover cop might just be right behind you when you have them on & you hit the brake & then say good bye to your max & hello to a police record. thats jail time

I appreciate everyones support on this forum and thank you guys from saving me from trouble. I did not think about that at all. I will certainly run a switch. Thanks again guys.

My question still remains, is there any way to open up the tail light??

I got to part where i opened the assembly, and then on the back of tail light there are many small screws, and two caps, i opened everything but nothing there, these screws are there for a reason !!!

you cant open up the tail lights , the only way is to break the lens itself...

Why dont you PM my boi Skep , him and Midgg both have strobes.. Im sure they can help you out..

Search Google for Skep and you will find him..
He just got feature in this months RIDES magzine.

Both their rides are only driven to shows, so if your doing this on a daily driver I dont see why you would go thru such hassles.
But its your car .

Well getting to tail light and electrical wise, it was pretty easy, its just putting them in place but i will give it a detailed look and see what i can come up with myself, and i will post the progress here.

over 220 degrees for 10 min. I have not done this so do at your own risk. You could get a heat gun and heat and pul apart. I would use the oven. I must do like everyone else and warn you that even with the car parked and strobe lights on you will get your car impounded for impersonating an officer. Big fine and probably a PITA to get the car back. I was allready talked to about my blue led door handle lights which turn off when the car starts. The officers told me if they didn't shut off when I started the car that they would have impounded the car and slapped me with a fine. Not sure you want to do this. Good luck with it. I want to take my tails apart for other reasons so let us know what works for you. Thanx
