Where is our Oil Drain plug?
 

I am doing the oil change tomorrow for the first time. I dont want to accidently drain my Transmission fluid... lol

i know for my car, the oil drain plug is at an angle and the tranny plug is completely perpendicular to the ground

On your passenger side , black oil pan ( square looking )

The filter is right on the same side.

Tranny would be on your Driver side and it uses a hex

It's on the oil pan. :mrgone:

Its kinda like that question that you ask about a really expensive car - "How much is it?" Cuz if you have to ask, you probably cant afford it. Likewise here, If you have to ask where the drain plug is, u probably shouldnt be working on your car. Just food for thought.

Drain plug is fairly obvious. The oil filter on the 07-08 (maybe all 6th gen, idk) is a bit tricky to find.

Changed my new to me 07 (purchased in February) a couple weeks ago. First time I changed it on own. Had dealer do one other one. Car is still running fine. :D

got to start somewhere. go to www.nissanhelp.com and under the knowledge tab there are service manuals. you just have to sign up for free and download the pdf for maintenance. in the search bar type oil change. you should be good from there. GL

ok.... so what do i need a hammer and a phillips screw driver for?

lol you need a 14mm socket for the plug, a ratchet to fit the socket, a filter removal tool for your size filter. recommend asking the parts store clerk to help you out. then all you do is put something to catch the oil with a capacity of at least 5 quarts. put it under the drain plug with a little bit of room towards the front bumper because the oil will not go straight down but outwards and down. open the oil fill cap on the top cover of the engine, then get back under the car and remove the oil plug. you should do this when the engine is cool not hot. if it's warm that's ok too. just not after a long drive. once the oil stops coming out then remove the oil filter which should be white or orange and towards the passenger wheel. once all the oil is done coming out clean off the filter seating surface. take the new filter and remove the rubber seal and put oil on it, enough to saturate. put seal back on oil filter and put filter back on hand tight. then make sure there is something to catch oil under the drain plug area and then pour about a half quart of oil through the oil fill cap. the oil should push all the old broken down/contaminated oil out. once it goes through put the oil plug back in and tighten hand tight. Not too tight just tight enough to ensure it does not come out. then add your oil. I believe with a new filter it is about 4and a quarter quarts of oil. I would add 4 quarts and check several times to make sure it was full. then put your oil fill cap back on and your done. start car and check for leaks. if there are any, then you probably didn't tighten tight enough or the oil filter rubber seal was put back in wrong. should take you less than 30 min if you are doing it for the first time. after that 15 at most. GL. Ohh and buy 5 quarts of oil prior to this so you don't have to go back to the store.
