TOP 3 MODS FOR HP INCREASE.. what do you think??

Alright so it somewhat of a survey for the max owners. As we all know there are hundreds upon hundreds of things to add to or change and obviously the turbos and superchargers, engine swaps, and other heavy duty mods would be best, but what mods whether somewhat large or small would be best to give the best hp increase..( example: intake exhaust headers etc.) looking for more of an experienced response here to see what everyone thinks. Thanks alot guys... I want to add more to my agenda!!

how about you re-think the question and ask yourself this.

#1 how much are you willing to spend , what is your budject ?

#2 what power range are trying to look for ? or what car did you lose and want to try and beat again ?

these are the answer I usually hear from customers or I ask them before I can give me full opinion.

most guys add fuel to the fire only cause they might have lost to a certain car and it motivates them to do so,

lastly what is your budject , how deep is your pockets ? is spending $300 bucks alot ? $15,000 ? $30,000 ?

if your asking whats the bang for the bucks ?

then intake/exhuast/header is a start and its likely how everyone starts off...but it becomes more addicting as well as everytime you add something you want more of it.

i agree with NiZMo1o1

u can increase ur hp (easy things) ... get intake.. (cold air intake) .. get exhaust (magnaflow)... mod your ecu.... reduce weight (not much hp gain but still)....

theres so much you can do but these were fewest thing you can do and keep your range low...

As far as horsepower per dollar, Id say spray, but also a lot more risky.

im confused.

are you asking if you can beat these two or are you stating that you beat them? are you an auto or manual? i seriously doubt you can take out a G35.

i guess anything is possible.

reason i ask is cause im barely able to pull on my friends 07 G35 sedan in my M (high end pull)

04-08 max's arent a problem for either one of my rides (so far)

cai-marginal gains
exhaust (magnaflow)- again marginal gains
mod ecu- without supporting mods, dependson what you get and also is more effective when used in conjunction with OTHER MODS.

not much man .. i dont think they tuned it right.. i lost my lower rpms and my high rpms are ok.. but could that be because of intake?... i have to go back to someone and get it tuned again..

noob question... what and how much of difference does the y pipe do? is it worth getting? and does anyone have one on sale for 2007-2008 maxima

generally with a CAI your low end tends to disappear but your high end pulls pretty hard. i have a theory but not really sure if its valid.
its kind of the reason why i didnt put a CAI on my max. i have the factory scoop and the factory air box. i noticed that when i removed the snorkel, i lost a lot of low end but when i put it back on, it came back. weird.

best mod would be to drop a new motor in it. Say RB26DETT? (but impossible unless you can somehow remove the G35/M35/45 RWD Sedan drivetrain off it and have it bolt up to our ride.

But still possible

How about firmer shifts from a pcm tune? My most noticeable mod on my old car. Can these cars get a mechanical shift kit installed like Transgo. I would prefer that route its safer on tranny?

I'm no expert on this but you can do it like a racer. Gut the crap out of the car and I bet it'll fly.........j/k but seriously though. It's cheap and you'll definitely notice gains in speed, that's if your that serious in making your car faster.

good thread ... i just got in from the track tonight ... ive had the max about 3 years (only 2nd time to the track in it), i went 14.56 at 95 ... decent air tonight here in cincy, the da was 900' ...

i watched a manual g35 run 14.90's all night with mods, im bone stock down to the paper air filter ... i think driving is the key ... im 37 and have been racing for almost 20 years, the kid in the g35 was prob in his early 20's ...

next time im going to try the slap shifter, i think it over*revs when you leave it in drive ...

how fast have you guys been all stock in your 04-08 maximas?

like the op states, whats a good cheap bang for the buck? ... does a tune pick these things up? ... when you mod your max, like an intake or exaust does the computer pick up the changes? ...

im good at mustangs, but dont know much about nissans ...

The cheapest thing I've heard for increased hp is a timing advance and changing the exhaust to y-pipes or something like that. It takes off something odd pounds off your ride which is important for our rides since they're already heavy enough.

Only if you want to go slower.

Okay from a roll, yeah but from a dig. Leave it in auto.

Intake, Headers, Y-pipe, & Cattback. Yeah I know its four mods but that is where I saw the most gains.

Single best mod for hp = Y-pipe.

First off it depends on the $$$$. I my self would first go with a complete exaust, then intake, and then a tune, to make sure that the parts you just added are held to there potential. If you wanna go big. i SAY GO PROCHARGER. OR GO WITH A turbo setup. I would also tune for ethanol if you have it close.
