Sorry buddy, but your 04 is not a CVT. The issue we're dealing with has to do with the 4spd/5spd auto transmissions in the 04-06 year Maximas. Maximas started using CVT from '07 and on.

A fix or extended warranty to the 10/100,000 would be excellent. Acura did it with their TL trans issues- I had a 2002 TL. They even installed a trans cooler free as part of their program and a free TSX loaner for the day. Look at Toyota who is always doing recalls now to fix their issues as well as many other auto makers, Benz, GM, Ford. Nissan doesn't do squat with any of their issues- they did do the rear subframe recall but nothing with the trans nor the shimmy nor rattling front suspension.

I hope Nissan do n put trans go kit with recall so after that we may never have problem.

2004-2006 Maxima doesn't have the CVT transmission so that doesn't apply to most of the guys here in the 6th gen

I would be happy if they would swap it for a 6 speed!

I have an 04' with almost 93,000 miles. (5 speed). I have not experienced any problems, however I have recently noticed on very rare occasions the engine will rev up for a second or two while driving approx 35mph, of course the tachometer jumps up for a second, then everything returns to normal. Is this the first sign of the dreaded transmission problem?

I hate to say it, but it sounds like the 2-3 gear issue, this may be the beginning of the problem. :mad: Watch for the really dreaded R to D which may happen soon or take a little while. The car almost jumps when you do this, way nasty. :bawling: At that point you pretty much have the issue.

Thanks for the BAD NEWS! Since I am unfamiliar with this problem, could you explain the R to D problem? Is that the kiss of death for the transmission?

I have the R to D jump but i was told it could be a cause of motor mounts. Within the next two weeks I will be replacing the motor mounts because two of them are broken and we shall see what happens

Update: I contacted the law firm for any updates and ws told by the lead attorney they are doing the research and some data gathering and should have an offical word in about a week. Understandable since the goal would be to hit Nissan with hard facts and numbers based on info I already provided including links to all these transmission problem threads so tell you friends if they have issues, post it to mark the time and date and get it on record!

i havent had tranny issues but i had everything else. cats went after just 1,000 miles and then recently again, and also powers steering high pressure hose, ac compressor and the car only has 30,000 miles on it.

This lawsuit is for the Tranny only due to the high cost to fix or replace!

I am starting to have the problems dammit! Car shifts very hard between 1st and 2nd, sometimes between 2nd and 3rd, tranny slips between a few gears, got stuck in 5th the other day, and now going from R to D is hitting hard, started today!!!

Just to make sure I get this right, the Transgo kit (http://www.transgo.com/SK-AW55.pdf) should fix these problems, right?

Oh and for the record, I have 110 000 km on the car (roughly 65 000 miles)

My started after 60,000 miles in 2008 or 2009 can't remeber nothing. Mine is 2004 5spd auto.

It does no? The problem is with auto trans ? if I am correct ,or is it with the cvt? why else would it be posted for 6th gens.

The 04-06 have a 5spd Automatic or 6spd Manual Transmission. ALL 07-08 have automatic CVT transmissions.

Dude, you are typing in English but I get the impression that English is not your first language. This potential class-action lawsuit is for the Maxima years 2004, 2005 and 2006. The Maximas from 2007 on are CVTs and are under warranty for 10 years or 100,000 miles.

Hey all. I also started having this issue recently. 05 max A/T, took it to a transmission shop and had 'em take a look. They came back with a complete tranny replacement to resolve the issue. Should I post the Diagnostic and Code they came back with? I'm wondering if I should also hold off on getting this fixed until there's a break in the case or not...

Guys I hope this issue makes it to Canada...I used to have a 2002 Maxima GLE which got totaled in an DUI accident involving an 80 year old man coming back from a Xmas party....I digress...the insurance paid for a new car...a 2004 SL Auto which was a total lemon and needed a new transmission after only 9,000 miles! Nissan and my dealer bought back the car from me 6 years ago almost to the day October 2004 and gave me a 2005 SE auto...after 96,000 kms or aprox 60K miles my transmission died back in May 2008 and finally was replaced for free. I have 55K kms or 35K miles on it at the moment and already I started to notice rough shifts in the cold AM up here in Montreal...so I called the dealer and had them change the transmission fluid this week this set me back over $100 (Can/US almost at par BTW). I guess I should to the transmission fix since my extended warranty which I purchased to 100K miles is ending Friday....
Good luck everyone on this an I will be checking this post from time to time...I really do believe that Nissan should do the transmission fix for free and extend the transmission warranty on our cars for 10 year.

there is no "break in the case"... there is no case. people are simply discussing an increasing problem and hoping for a solution.

IF a case is created... it will take a good deal of time to get started... and a lot more time to even get going before anything "breaks"

That sounds very promissing chern, hopefully we can eventually force a recal or a warranty extention. It would be nice to have nissan service my tranny since it seems that the 06 valve body does not have this issue.

only if (that is a result is hopefully obtained) you could get nissan to do the shift kit. i'm thinking although an extended warranty is great... it will just replace it with the same tranny. so a new tranny every xx,xxx miles?

and what about those that baby our cars and it goes just after the extended warranty? doing fine at 71,000 miles. just like the CVT it will likely extend to 100,000 miles. i would be the one to have issues at 100,001 miles :rolleyes:

Wow great, good news, we know it should happen. Nissan here we go, you should have done this on your own, but now will be bleeding money for your failure!

On the same topic, I had my Maxima at the shop for 2 weeks for tranny rebuilt, drove the car for one week and still pretty much the same, just very slight improvement, but now I seem to also have a 3-4 jerk... unbelievable.

My Maxima is going back on Wednesday to the tranny shop, THANKS NISSAN!!! Hopefully for not too long, so tired of this issue :banghead:

Damn wish this was for 02-03 autos also. About to go threw my second tranny rebuild one at 45k and another at 63k smh 18k apart

If they decide to do recall on 04-06 tranny. Then I hope they cover people who past 100,000 miles? I'm at 103,000.

I think the bottom line is if there is a flaw with the design of the transmission, it needs to be fixed in all Maxima's with the same transmissions regardless of mileage!
