Radio Reception

does any one know if the antenna system requires power in the maxima's to work? I checked the schematics and it seems that there is an antenna amplifier which probably requires power to run of course.. post thought and comments..
thanks.

thanks for the post. i would love to know this too. I have the stock Bose system, and my radio reception sucks!

could be that the antenna amplifier is bad.. thats what i wanna know

If I turn my rear defroster on while the radio is on it goes to static. What's that all about!

I'm still shooting in the dark here but I think in your case, there might be a bad cable from the antenna amplifier to your radio unit. Those cables are shielded and maybe when you turn the rear defogger on, the cable might be picking up stray EMI(electro-magnetic interference) from the defogger... my best eduu-macated guess.

it needs a rear windshield antenna runs in the glass

Ive seen it happen on after market radios when the blue/wht wire isnt connected... also if your car once had an after market when they put it back to factory they like to forget to ground the radio.... they like to short cut and just plug the antenna in and let the radio ground threw that..

Nissan radios have a bolt in the back that a ground strap usually goes to. Its a 10mm head.

yes it is pin#5 from connector M43 (for non-bose late production version) and this connection is essential for good radio reception. i made a separate post about this for clarification.

You said for non-Bose - is there anything special for the Bose?

not sure, sorry. diagrams and pin#s and connector#s may or may not be the same for antenna amp- look up FSM diagram for your particular car (with bose or without). Make sure you are on right page while reading FSM diagrams, the way FSM is written is page after page referring to bose or non-bose (aka "base") audio option.

confirmed NON BOSE, Pin 5 green/white wire. So I would assume that I would have to just connect a 12 volt switched( of course) source to that pin and all should be fine?

don't think too much about the voltage, are you using aftermarket radio? if so, run blue/white wire from the radio (it may be labeled "antenna motor" or "power antenna" or whatever) to that pin#5 we are talking about and everything should be fine.

I put some dynamat on the trunk lid because it was rattling with the bose. Ever since then the radio reception is little to nothing.
