My 300ZX BBK Upgrade

Hello fellow 6th genners. Today i have for you my 300zx BBK UPGRADE. Before I continue SPECIAL THANKS TO CORYXAVIER AND KCMAXX, if not for these two members I wouldnt have this
Visited Cory for some BSing and some installing of a few items. I think we
BS'ed more than anything else. First off I would like to say, nothing on my car is easy to take off except the wheels:eek: I think my ride has sat in the Texas Sun for far too long so every bolt seemed like it melted and became part of the sheet metal:lol::lol:
As every member here who visited Cory for work have said, he is a real cool guy and makes you feel at home. Even better, he even had dinner ready :shakeshout::shakeshout:(unfortunately, I was fasting and couldnt eat meat, Sorry Cory, but next time I wont be fasting and tell the woman i want mofongo) How many guys do that? I am not gonna bore you with all the details. Here are my pics (better ones to come soon, i have to touch up some) So here you go. PS. I am using a dogbone type bracket created by Nizomo1 and I am running stock rotors (with the dog bone, i should be using the 13"cobra rotors). In th pics you can see i do not get full pad coverage, however there are some brackets in the works to get me more pad coverage (a la the one, a member use to make, his name is slipping me)

That's how it is for all Z32 A33B and A34 upgrades.

phatboislim 05-12-2011 06:58 AM

wow...i dont know if i like that much. i'm glad i just went w/ the 6th gen...i think i would have been upset

Z32 > A34, any day of teh week. Brake torque is greater with the Z32 set-up (larger diameter not only means more pad surface but better clamping + greater torque at the edge of the rotor for overall better braking).

You'd be really upset at some higher end vehicles BBK's or even stock brakes of cars meant to be driven fast for that matter.

phatboislim 05-12-2011 07:06 AM

i bet its better...but i wouldnt like the visual of that much rotor left. maybe its the ricer in me :D

NmexMAX 05-12-2011 07:11 AM

This is a beastly kit right here:

Nice upgrade. It looks good!

I3LAZEN 05-14-2011 08:34 AM

Cool

SlvrPtrn 05-15-2011 07:30 PM

Wish I could afford this lol.

eK9aT10pSi 05-15-2011 08:45 PM

for the calipers, what year(s) for the 300zx are applicable to this upgrade path?

HMAX08 05-16-2011 04:16 AM

Thanks for all the compliments guys, it is true that with this set up you dont get full pad coverage however, the stopping is great on this. as I stated above I can get a little more pad coverage if i upgrade my rotors to the cobra 13" rotors, but I am waiting for a copy of the mattblemco bracket to be made (hopefully in the next month) and that will give me HELLA pad coverage. LOL

all info here. you need to get aluminum 30mm calipers from 1990-1995 (be careful though, not all years came with the aluminum, i believe the earlier years 90-92 only came with them, dont hold me to that though)

Yeah man, the upper one but not the lower one because i have some strobe lights down there that will need to either be removed or I will make cut outs

:noes:, i should re-phrase that. I am working on a similar design of these brackets however i am using only pictures of those plus the brackets that come with the willwoods so it has been difficult :mad:to say the least to get them done. I am also looking into making these out of marine quality aluminum

Are you still making these? I was under the impression that you are NOT. if you are, you can save me some headaches. ooh do you just sell brackets or does one have to buy the entire kit?

Do cobra rotors cost that much? Even so you can get some slotted/drilled one's and not have to worry about them warping or having to buy new ones soon. It just seems like a pain having to wait, and I think the bigger rotors would give the car a better look...

Why do you think I don't just give my designs away to those that ask? Designing that stuff was a major PITA and took weeks of work and about 4 revisions before it was 'as good as it can fit'. no, they're not perfect, but you're fitting a caliper designed for an 11" rotor onto a 12.6" or 13" rotor. compromises.

Even my wilwood calipers do the same thing on the 11.75" rotors on my race car, and Wilwood specs them for 10" to 13" rotors.

As for brackets, I have a few pieces of raw material left that I'm going to eventually build out- maybe 10 sets or so- but I don't have anything completed in stock and I'm not planning on building more once they're gone.

The business and designs are for sale. It once was and still can be a VERY profitable business if someone has the desire to pick up what I had and continue with it. I'm keeping one of everything left that will go with the business/name, website, sales history, vendor contacts, inventory, fabrication jigs, and CAD files.

ooh, I totally understand man. i didnt know people were asking you for the design but yeah I wouldnt give it up either. I just remember seeing threads that said they are no longer available so i just went with the dogbone bracket for the 13" rotors, but i saw how yours look on another car on another froum and wanted its rotor coverage, so i set out to find/make some. I totally know what you mean by PITA making those brackets its killer and thank you for making them the first time around but I didnt have a 6th gen at that time or even knew about this site:( . Do you know when your final sets will be made/available?

As for the business being for sale, I may know a couple of people who may be interested I will pass the word around but with the economy being the way it is, people very closely guard their liquid equity. I will get the word out though.

Let me know about the brakets once made. Thanks again and have a great day

They are not that expensive, you can get em online. I wanted to use stock rotors so all my rotors match, LOL.

got a buddy who gets his wheels/tires for dirt cheap uses them for awhile then sells them for a profit, I envy him LOL, you cant find those deal here in NYC:(. In nyc guys think their OEM wheels should sell for what the dealer wants for them, LMAO

chris350 05-18-2011 10:34 PM

the spacers are necessary with these Z calipers?

fairladyzman 05-18-2011 11:34 PM

Ya the Z32 calipers are large and even the stock 300zx rims have a huge offset.
