Lets Play, Guess That Noise!
So, I just took my car to the shop. There has been this noise emanating from the driver side wheel area that sounds like a rock in a tin can rolling around. It happens at the 1800-2100 RPM range and only happens when the car is in motion. Does not do it at idle or revving at idle/neutral ... at first i thought it was the lifters but I don't think it is...
best guess gets a high five.. lol.:jump: |
Something caught in the rotor shield or bad wheel bearing?
I would definetly take out the wheel and rotor and look around.
its 12.01 EST.. still no call from the mechanic... waiting..
1) CV joint
2) Wheel bearing 3) Bad tires Wake me up please if mechanic find something else... |
My money is on the backing plate for the brakes (basically just a shield to keep water/debris from hitting the inside side of the rotor). Mine did the same exact thing except it also would make noise over bumps. I fixed it with a tooth pick!
it was some metal shielding on an exhaust pipe..
It was the heat shield... Replaced? If they just took it off your gonna start getting some nasty corrosion...
I had two similar noises, but completely different issues. I had a tin rattle like noise on accel, took off all heat shields and found the spot weld on cat rusted through, eventualy caused a check engine light. Had cat replaced under warranty. The other was a slight ting coming from the wheels, normally heard in a parking garage. Ended up being the cotter pins for the axle nuts moving around. Annoying noise, I sure hatem
no did not replace... recommend to replace with a new one??
I have the exact same noise at the exact time just as you described. Thanks for posting that it was something to do with the exhaust. So all you did was remove the shielding that was loose I'm assuming? Did you end up replacing it?
There is no need to replace most heat shielding.
The shield doesn't rest right on the pipe anyways which would block some debris from getting in so you won't see any excess corrosion. |
