Black Mesh Sport Grille

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/NEW-0...Q5fAccessories

Is this grille any good? Does it line up with oem holes, so its an easy installation without drilling? I like the black sporty look of it to replace the chrome plastic oem 1 on my dark blue car.

It's a copy/cheap version of this grille:

http://cmodgrilles.auctivacommerce.c...e-P119575.aspx

Although, the one that you have doesn't look like it requires any modifications done to it to make it fit. The only downside would be the material that was used to make it.

The c-mod grille does require some drilling for installation. Don't have this grille myself but some use the OEM piece of the grille to match up the holes so they can drill some holes on the aftermarket piece to make it fit. If that makes any sense (forgot the name of the plastic piece). Downside of both grilles would be the plastic mesh.

If you wanna replace that than here's a site to buy the material. I would recommend the diamond mesh which resembles the mesh that it came with. You can also have them powder coat it black as well:

http://www.customcargrills.com/products.asp?cat=1

All in all, it's going to be up to you. Both grilles are basically the same design and the material being used are not going to compare to the steal grilles out there.

completely agree with 6.5 - a good friend of mine has the c-mod replica, looked fine until we had to do the install...

wire looked like something from a chicken coop and the plastic was faded on some parts. After seeing that, I opted to go with the C-Mod grille and have been very happy with the product and install was a breeze (see pics below)

Hope this helps with your decision

i have this grille and there is nothing wrong with it. i think there are two areas where you have to drill holes in and the bottom you would need a fastener to keep it down but that's up to you. the mesh isn't all that bad either but i'm looking to replace it anyway

Wilmaestro_Frezh 07-26-2011 09:07 AM

I've had the C-Mod grill on my car for about 2 years now. Still in awesome shape, excellent quality. Can't speak for the other grill, but have no complaints bout the C-Mod.

How is the plastic mesh holding up? I'm interested in this grill for myself.

blueballa952 07-26-2011 05:09 PM

There's no going wrong with a cmod grille.

Adrew27l 07-27-2011 12:12 AM

by far my favorite grill on 6th gens. im interested to hear how well the plastic holds up..

BossMaxima 07-27-2011 05:35 AM

Theres a chance youll get a metal mesh.. I bought my CMOD off another member and he said he never replaced the mesh but mine has a metal mesh.. It doesnt look as bad as the plastic ones but the gap is too large for me.

The cmod grille looks grey in that picture. Isn't it black? Also how easy is it to take that mesh off for a better replacement mesh as mentioned in an earlier posting? What do you use to trim mesh to fit cmod grille? Wire cutters???

BossMaxima 07-27-2011 03:32 PM

Its black but its a matte finish. I sprayed mine gloss black with krylon fusion for plastics. Next week Im taking it off and respraying the outer rim, spraying the mesh flat black and getting some black screws to hold the mesh in.

CXJ Performance 07-28-2011 09:04 PM

i had the c-mod and i didnt like the gap below the hood so i sold it and brought the e-bay version. much better fit and mine came with perfect holes. i brought from this seller

Question for those who has a C-Mod grill - I just ordered one. Not sure if the product comes with installation instruction - if not, can someone give me a quick overview on how to install?

Thanks!

Import06 07-29-2011 05:45 PM

you probably have to drill 2 holes and then just put in the fasteners. find something to clamp the bottom of the grille for more protection

NYCMAXIMA 07-31-2011 12:37 PM

Gonna get this style grill soon. Still debating if i should spend the extra cash for the c-mod. I think i would rather get the metal mesh that comes with the c-mod, but if the ebay one looks exactly the same with better fit and no drilling like Oryxavier said then the ebay grille is a much better deal. Only reason i havent ordered it yet is because i think i would want the metal mesh. Coryxavier can u post some pics of ur grille? if i order the plastic one it's gonna b from the seller u recomended.

Zoryana 08-01-2011 08:08 PM

Got my carbon fiber c-mod from www.bayspeedaerokit.com.
Haven't seen another Maxima with it yet :)

NYCMAXIMA 08-02-2011 06:34 PM

your grill looks great. it fits really good. did you get the one with the metal mesh or is the grille one plastic piece? i looked on www.bayspeedaerokit.com but they dont have much info on the grill. i'm guessing u got the one for $120; is that including shipping?? they only have a white one pictured how did you get it in black?

Zoryana 08-02-2011 08:11 PM

It has a metal mesh. I was looking for a carbon fiber grill and they were the only guys who had it. On their website it cost $ 216 + shipping, but I talked the sales guy down to $190 w/shipping.:D
On the car this mesh actually looks black. Fitting was a b..tch as all carbon fiber parts http://forums.maxima.org/picture.php...ictureid=28231

Does anyone have a write up of step by step instruction on how to install the C-mod grill on 2004 Maxima? I've found write ups on how to remove factory grill, but nothing on installation of the C-Mod grill - for example, I know I have to drill holes that's lined up to the factory holes, but do folks suggest zip tie or bolt & nuts to fasten it? Also how do you hold down bottom of the gill? Thanks in advance

CXJ Performance 08-05-2011 06:44 PM

its has plastic mesh that can be easily replaced but i didnt do that cause its just as good. only thing with this grille is that it has to be secured at the bottom. i screwed mine to the top of the bumper with 2 screws to the middle of the bottom portion of the grille. you'll never see it but it beats having that bend on the top like the c-mod has. plus the holes line up perfect. they also supply new tab inserts in the box as well

ur ride is lookin real clean dude.

04slvr 08-15-2011 09:05 PM

The black grill would look great imo.

BossMaxima 08-18-2011 08:50 PM

Just an update.. my CMOD came with some silver screws that showed through and started to randomly fall out.. I didnt realize this until I left my gf's place and my grill was hanging straight down from the top screws...

Solution: If anyone else is having this problem, I removed all of the screws, used 3 as guides and used epoxy at random spots around the inside perimeter. It looks better to me than when I had the screws holding it in because the gap is eliminated and it looks much more seamless.

CXJ Performance 08-23-2011 08:50 AM

ebay grille

ftw lol

6.5affiliate 08-23-2011 09:39 PM

Very nicely done man, it's clean. Everything flows correctly and isn't overly done. The grille basically ties everything together on the ride.

Akiriyama 01-12-2012 10:44 PM

I bought the Ebay grille. No drilling required and the mesh is made of metal. All I had to do was secure it to the bottom (which would be the top of the bumper) with zip ties and I used metal bolts at the top for a more secure fitment.

Just go for it man. It just requires some drilling and paint if you prefer to paint it. There's a few grill for the 6thgen maxima's but this one is the best looking one

I went with the c-mod grille. it took about 15 minutes to install it, including the drilling. no problems at all...

gatsugansu 03-09-2012 07:13 AM

gatsugansu 03-10-2012 07:19 AM

I am trying to avoid cmod ones due to the gap under the hood.

mrjasonlyrics 03-10-2012 07:23 AM

Oh I see.Mine sit flush top and bottom.

gatsugansu 03-10-2012 08:00 AM

I want it cheaper. I just got some BC coilovers so that set me back a bit.
