What's the average price to change a clutch on my 6thgen max

Looking to upgrade my OEM for a stage 1 clutch.I know mechanics over charge on the clutch to make a profit, so I'll buy my own clutch and have them install it.

Seeing that I never changed my clutch before I will like to know how much it should cost me for labour/hr,and how long should it take the average mechanic to change a clutch?I don't know how big of a job it is.

Labor around 500 to 600 dolalrs + whatever you spend on the parts. On a job like this I suggest buying a good aftermarket clutch kit, stage 1 should be sufficient for a daily, around 400. You're looking at around 1000 buck give or take.

Sorry to hijack this thread like this, but where would i find a reasonably priced stage 1 clutch kit?

That's not bad.I have a few mechanics but I just wanted to get an average so that when I go it to them they don't over-charge me.

~5-6 hours is what I'd charge in labor at my Nissan dealer. I forget what Alldata has it listed for. It's a fairly easy job. Don't forget to swap out that rear main seal while you're there.

Great. I'll remember to pick it up from the dealer. Other members sugget that I do the light weight fly wheel to get extra power seeing that I'm already in there, but that light weight fly wheel is pretty expensive. Still debating on that

The charge on mine was $950 including parts. This is a heavy luxary car putting a race clutch wont make it any faster FYI

So you're saying it's pointless to put a stage 1 clutch in a maxima? The clutch isn't to make the car fast,it just improve your launch:rolleyes:

Well, if a car happens to be in need of a new clutch, then it would be a good reason to get something like a stage one.As mentioned, it will help launch the car and might make shifting more fun.

Don't listen to that hater, he doesn't know shet about cars. Stage one will be perfect.

Make sure you get the flywheel resurfaced. If it has hotspots on it, I would replace it. I've driven cars that have had new clutches installed on flywheels that weren't resurfaced, or had hotspots, and it will cause the new clutch to chatter when you're engaging the clutch in first gear. It's extremely annoying.

I want something asclose to OEM as possible but unfortunately EXEDY is the only company that sells the stage 1 for the 6thgen maxima's and it's pretty privey. I found another seller that told me his stage 3 carries the same pressure plate as the stage 1 but his disc will just be a 10% pressure difference. I'm really scared to buy the stage 3 because I do a lot of hwy driving, but he did assure me that there isn't much of a difference.

It's just a matter of getting use to the upgraded clutch

I won't really say he's hating, maybe he has an automatic and he doesn't really know, but I did ask for an opinion and he gave his. I'm gonna chage it because I want to improve my launch.

I know you get a better launch with a higher stage clutch because I raced against my boy who has an altima with stage 1 and his launch is quicker and more effective than mine.

I'm actually considering to upgrade to the light weight flywheel but these things are soo costly. The clutch, flywheel and labour would probably be around $1500 give or take.

But if I don't do the light weight flywheel I'll make sure and get the resurfaced.

I have a 6 speed tranny with a new clutch, you want the car to launch? How about off a cliff? Take it for what is, a heavy boat :D

Bypassing the clutch dampener will provide all the benefit you seek without the expense.
