What brake pads and rotors?

Hi guys
Going to try changing my front pads and rotors for the first time myself. Can anyone recommend good products for each? Something better than the OEM ones, but nothing too crazy. I dont race or anything ... just normal city and highway driving.
thanks a lot

I dont know if "powerstop" makes any for your gen but they are really good quality and cheap. You can get a front and rear set with drilled/slotted rotors and ceramic pads for a few hundo. ANy of the Ebay brands are the same thing, lots of .org 4th gen and 5th gen owners run them and they last surprisingly long for the price point

He doesn't need drilled, slotted should be plenty for his needs.

they come drilled and slotted. If he was tracing it then I would say go only with slotted because the drills are knows to expand and break but for a DD drilled and slotted is fine. You can never have enough stopping power, its a safety thing.

I am ordering brembo smooth faced OEM replacements and hawk ceremic pads. Used same rotors on my modded ford focus back in the day and was happy with them.

Hawk HP pads I think are the best you can get (for stopping power), I always use solid brembo's, I can locked them at 70 (who needs big brake kits).

The con's, they are noisy, squeal, and probably wear out fast/uneven.

I highly suggest OEM. If you will go with non-OEM, stick with the same friction coefficient. Car makers have engineers and they used those specs for a reason One thing with ceramic pads, they will eat your rotors fast.

The point of the aftermarket is to offer a higher friction coefficient and thus better stopping power. Suggesting one sticks with OEM when they are trying to upgrade is kind of ridiculous. Nissan used the rotors and pads they did because whoever won the bid to supply them offered the lowest price, not becuase they worked the best with the calipers. Upgrading from OEM only helps

Please define "ceramic pads, they will eat your rotors fast"

How much faster than performance metallic pads or OEM? How long will it take with ceramic pads to bring oem rotors below min thickness level?

Any serious articles to support this?

Or you don't really know what you are talking about?

I did my front brakes on my 99 last year. I used Adaptive One pads from NAPA and rotors they sold for around $30 ea or so. Impressive stopping for a somewhat cheaper job. Little dusty, but not as bad as what others have shown in pictures.

May the stopping force be with you!

take it from a guy who does brakes once every 18 months, blank brembo's and akibono ceramic pads. no dust at all and quiet.

I would go to canadian tire or something like that (your car parts store) and get the best OEM quality ceramic pads and rotors you can get, and thats it.

I have hawk hps pads, they work, but it's not needed for regular driving, plus they dust a lot compared to ceramics, and they dont even come with clips.

I agree with Kryogen. The OEM anchors on the Maxima are more than adequate for a daily driver. If your not taking your car to the track, then OEM's from Autozone are just fine.

quick question, i have an 03 maxima 6sp. and i purchased the duralast gold rotors for the rears and rear ceramic brake pads. the new rotors are regular rotors. so the question is my rear rotors are slotted. will i still be able to put my rotors and pads in with no problem?

Yes. OEM's were solids. There won't be any problems.

really, unless you actually race on a track, any OEM grade (premium) plain rotors and pads will work perfectly fine. Don't overthink it....

The rear rotors are slotted and not the fronts? Not the other way around? The fronts do most of the work (by far), therefore generate most of the heat.

Yes they do....I have Powerstop x-drilled/slotted front (6th Gen) on my 5.5th Gen with Powerstop Extreme pads and man these brakes nearly put my head thru the windshield.....It really hauls the car to a quick stop.....I have their rear xdrilled/slotted rotors on the rear as well with the extreme pads and I would definitely tell yal too check them out...big bang for the buck!
